Temporary Junior Economic Development Officers to Join The Team!

*16-week position beginning May 5, 2025 and ending August 21, 2025*

Position Summary:

The Junior Economic Development Officer is a full-time, temporary summer student position that supports the work of Huron County’s Economic development Department, including the Huron Business Centre, Local Immigration partnership, tourism marketing and Investment Attraction.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support Huron County Economic Development staff in planning and implementing department programs, workshops, and related activities.
  • Act as Ambassadors for Huron County Economic Development and its different business lines – Huron Business Centre, Tourism, Local Immigration Partnership, and Investment Attraction – at Huron County events.
  • Refer Huron County Economic Development clients (e.g. newcomers, businesses, visitors, etc.) to available services and resources.
  • Support the marketing and promotion of Huron County Economic Development’s programs and services through social media and digital content that engages target audiences on our social media channels (Facebook and Instagram) and website.
  • Conduct targeted research to collect economic development data on best practices, trends, and benchmarking related to Huron County Economic Development’s programs and activities, including the development and conducting of surveys.
  • Keep track of relevant statistics for presentations, social media, and the website.
  • Coordinate inventory and delivery of Huron County printed promotion materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Education: entering final year of secondary school or currently enrolled in a post-secondary program.
  • Strong skills in communication, time management, organization, computer literacy, and problem-solving.
  • The position is funded in part by the government of Canada’s Canada summer jobs program that requires eligible students to be between 15 and 30 years of age.

Preferred Skills:

  • Driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a vehicle (if in-person only).
  • Communicates well, both written and spoken.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Experience with WordPress and Canva is an asset.

Competitive Compensation:

  • Starting wage is $17.72 to $21.92, and up to $24.66 per hour; as per the 2024 non-union student wage grid. Wage increases with the level of education and seniority.
  • Option to opt into OMERS pension plan.
