The ATS Test Division specializes in developing custom in-process and End-of-Line Test Systems to meet and exceed the customer’s needs. We are part of the Industrial Automation group with a strong focus on EV products including battery cell, module, and pack leak and functional testing but also serve other industries including the Life Sciences group, Aerospace Industry, traditional automotive, specialty products, and the growing Fuel Cell market.

ATS Test provides PC-based solutions for complex test systems that need high accuracy, high data collection, and advanced analysis. Our core competencies include electrical functional testing, electro-mechanical testing, and pneumatic and hydraulic leak and flow testing.

Major Duties

Design and implement custom software based on customer and project requirements. Programming assignments may involve PC and/or PLCs, and the integration of various third-party instrumentation or data acquisition devices. The integration stage will combine software with associated custom-built machine(s) and involve proving out mechanical, electrical, and software components to produce a fully functional system. Work is performed under the supervision, guidance, and direction of more senior software developers and is commensurate with level of ability.

Specific Responsibilities

1. With input and guidance from more senior developers, design programs specific to customer and project requirements based on standard ATS Test Systems programming methods.
2. Debug and commission test system programs on our shop floor during systems integration stage and then on the customer’s site during installation.
3. Work with customers, project managers, other software developers, designers, toolmakers, and technicians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete functional system.
4. Provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify test system program completeness.
5. Collaborate with other members of the software development department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating test system software and instrumentation technology.
6. Provide accurate user documentation for each project.
7. Write programs in clear, concise high-level structured software development languages, using object-oriented design methods whenever appropriate.
8. Inform customer project personnel regarding documentation and advise them on solving technical problems.
9. Provide customer training specific to their current project, including machine operation, programming principles, program functionality, and program structure.
10. Willingness to travel up to 25%.
11. Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS code of business conduct.
12. Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.

Qualifications

Education

1. Requires a post-secondary diploma or engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical, mechanical, software, or controls technology.

Experience

1. Hands-on programming and troubleshooting experience with current PC hardware and programming software, preferably in an industrial automation environment.
2. Good background in object-oriented programming languages and design methodologies.
3. Preferred experience developing real-time data acquisition and control applications and some experience designing and implementing real-time software systems.
