Job description

Summary:
The Junior Accountant is responsible for providing support with financial reporting obligations, maintenance of fiscal records, preparation of financial reports and accounting practices including back up of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Reconciles sub-ledger accounts to general ledger at month end. Investigate and follow up on discrepancies.
  2. Verify and track consignment inventory at various locations.
  3. Complete weekly and month-end bank reconciliations.
  4. Review and investigate closed work orders for variances.
  5. Prepares GST/PST remittances and files reports via government websites.
  6. Prepare journal entries as required.
  7. Assist with preparation for audits or independent reviews as required.
  8. Prepare internal period end reports.
  9. Assist with processing sales order invoicing ensuring all necessary paperwork and approvals are attached.
  10. Assist with accounts payable and reception when required.
  11. Track and reconcile end user rebate programs and/or coupons as applicable.
  12. Review and reconcile monthly dealer rebates and accruals.
  13. Assist with pricing review for system updates.
  14. Provide backup coverage to Accounting Manager as required.
  15. Adheres to corporate accounting policies and procedures.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Accounting Diploma, Certificate or Degree in accounting, finance or related field is preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  2. Direct experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable or inventory systems is an asset.
  3. 1+ year reception / switchboard experience is an asset.
  4. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel, Word and Outlook.
  5. Effective attention to detail and a high degree of data entry accuracy.
  6. Demonstrated ability to accurately calculate, post, correct and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  7. Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization and execution skills.
  8. Ability to handle multiple priorities, adapt to changing conditions and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and government agencies.
  10. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  11. Ability to complete projects and tasks as assigned within specified time limits.

Working Conditions:
Office environment: 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
Overtime as required.
