We currently have an opportunity for a full-time Junior Buyer in the Purchasing Department.

How Junior Buyer supports our teams at Grand River Hospital:

Working under the direction of the Director, Purchasing & Materials Management, this role supports the implementation of the Grand River Hospital purchasing mandate. This role has a strong working relationship with all programs within GRH. The Junior Buyer is responsible for the overall expenditure of hospital funds and the buying functions on behalf of GRH. This role must understand and implement the Broader Public Sector Supply Chain Directives to ensure that organizational funding is not jeopardized. The Junior Buyer has responsibility for managing vendor and contractual relationships on behalf of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops “bid ready” specifications for RFQs, working closely with physicians, directors, managers, and clinical educators to meet the patient care/department needs of the clinical units.
  • Manages all components of the competitive bid cycle.
  • Coordinates capital and operating equipment purchases and trials.
  • Manages a small portfolio of clinical departments, handling day-to-day requisitioning, product sourcing, and contract management.
  • Places orders, expedites orders, and resolves invoice discrepancy issues.
  • Supports Senior Buyers with RFPs and project work.
  • Assists Senior Buyers with various tasks such as cost updates and contract conversions.
  • Regularly supports Senior Buyers with Mohawk/Medbuy conversions, cost analysis on initiatives, reporting including product utilization and dollar spend, and sourcing of products.
  • Consolidates evaluation forms and scores.
  • Develops and creates reports.
  • Manages Mohawk/Medbuy MitigAid portal to ensure timely communication to Senior Buyers and end users on Supply Chain impacts and backorders.
  • Conducts daily cycle counts in the warehouse in coordination with the Inventory Analyst.
  • Manages and maintains Capital Assets.
  • Occasionally offers vacation support/coverage to Purchasing and Inventory Analyst roles.
  • Occasionally offers vacation support/coverage to Senior Buyers.

At Grand River Hospital, the Junior Buyer brings the following:

  • Undergraduate degree or community college graduate of a recognized supply chain program preferred.
  • Supply Chain Management (SCMP, CPPM, or other relevant purchasing/materials management courses) is preferred.
  • 1 – 3 years relevant experience is required.
