We are currently hiring Journeyperson Carpenter to join the team at our mechanical evaporation facility in Unity, Saskatchewan.

Unity: Located in the western part of Saskatchewan, Compass Minerals’ Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant is one of the company’s four mechanical evaporation plants. The plant produces and packages a wide variety of salt products including water conditioning salt, bulk salt, food-grade salt and salt for agriculture. The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2-hour drive from Saskatoon. How will you contribute to the team?

This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor within the Unity Plant Maintenance Team, and works alongside other trades, to accomplish company objectives. To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Uses and maintains tools and equipment, performs general maintenance and inspections, organizes work, and performs routine trade activities.
  • Build, dismantle, and maintain wooden structures.
  • Build, dismantle, and maintain concrete surfaces and structures.
  • Experience with concrete repair compounds to repair existing concrete floors and structures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
  • Prepare layouts to conform to building codes using measuring tools.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials of wood and other materials.
  • Build foundations, install floor systems, lay sub-flooring, and erect walls and roof systems.
  • May prepare cost estimates for projects.
  • Fit and install trim items, cupboards, and countertops.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures at industrial plant and other establishments.
  • Cleaning and other duties as required.

Qualifications - what should you bring to the role?

The successful candidate will have:

  • Hold a Journeyperson certificate in Saskatchewan for Carpenter/Scaffolder or an interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement.
  • Experience with industrial scaffolding.
  • Ability to multi-task, have a high sense of urgency with regards to operational requirements and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs: Excel, Word.
  • Experience in E1/JD Edwards ERP is an asset.

What is the work schedule:

  • The shift schedule is a 4 days on / 3 days off rotation (10-hour shifts), starting on a Monday or Tuesday, as per the collective agreement.
