Job Description

Salary Range: $40.95 - $48.75

Position Summary:

Part-time position to work three (3) days per week (days, weekends & holidays). The Recreation Therapist will be responsible for developing individualized care plans and implementing recreation therapy programs designed to address the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of patients. Key responsibilities include assessing patients, developing therapeutic interventions, and facilitating engaging programs that promote recovery, enhance well-being, and support the Six Proven Strategies for preventing delirium during hospitalization. The Recreation Therapist is also responsible for providing leisure education and connecting individuals with community resources to facilitate their successful reintegration into the community or transition to an alternative level of care setting.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be a university graduate from a recognized academic program of Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Must be Registered with Therapeutic Recreation of Ontario (R/TRO) or eligible for R/TRO.
  • Professional member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation of Ontario.
  • Current working experience in a hospital setting with Rehabilitation and Palliative/Oncology populations required.
  • PIECES trained is an asset.
  • Experience working with patients exhibiting behaviours and psychological symptoms of dementia (BDSD) considered an asset.
  • Experience and knowledge in exercise prescription and facilitating group exercise programs required.
  • Proven skills in assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation a wide variety of therapeutic recreation programs.
  • Experience in facilitating leisure education sessions with a strong knowledge base for resources within the community and to effectively integrate patients back into the community for discharge planning.
  • Evidence of on-going professional education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary self-directed team.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with Meditech modules an asset.
  • Regular attendance required.
