Classification/Level: Custodial Worker Level 2
Employment Status: Regular Part-Time

Position Summary
The janitor is responsible for keeping the Centre clean and sanitized.

Reporting Relationship
The janitor works under the direction of the Custodian and Centre Supervisor/Designate.

Essential Functions
Daily Responsibilities

  • Clean classrooms, program rooms, administration offices and all related areas
  • Vacuum carpeted areas and sweep and mop tiled floor areas in all designated areas
  • Clean and disinfect all washroom sinks, floors, toilet stalls and toilet seats, paper towel dispensers, fixtures, doors and door knobs and replenish paper towels, toilet paper, soap, etc., as needed
  • Clean and disinfect all classroom/office countertops and sinks, dust and wipe all classroom and office furniture
  • Clean and disinfect drinking dispensers, walls, telephones, computers/keyboards, windows, mirrors, and walls as necessary
  • Ensure caution "wet floor" signs are used and visible to prevent slips and falls
  • Report any cleaning equipment repairs and other cleaning/maintenance issues to the Custodian and/or Supervisor/Designate
  • Collect garbage and place in outside garbage bins and ensure garbage bin is kept clean always
  • At the end of the day, ensure the entire building is locked and all doors and windows are secure

Other Duties

  • Clean and disinfect fridge/microwave once a month
  • Assist co-janitor and custodian with scheduled annual spring/fall thorough cleaning of the entire building; including wash, strip, wax and buff floors, wash walls, inside and outside windows, window coverings, shampoo all carpets
  • Attend staff meetings, professional days, etc., as requested
  • Perform other duties

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements

Preferred
High School Diploma and 2-years' work-related experience
WHIMIS, CPR & First Aid Certifications
Knowledge and experience of the Early Years Learning Centre work environment
Knowledge and experience of Work Place Health & Safety procedures
Minimum
High School Diploma or Equivalency with 1-year work-related experience
Current WHIMIS, CPR & First Aid Certifications or willing to acquire
Ability to read and understand labels/instructions for application of cleaning chemical products
Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team environment, to maintain effective working relationships with all Day Care staff
Maintain professional attitude when interacting with children, parents, and visitors
Able to maintain confidentiality always
Effective writing and verbal communication skills
Effective problem-solving skills
Knowledge of Anishinabemowin or willingness to learn are strong assets
Flexible to work odd hours, overtime and/or on weekends as needed
Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle
Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) requirement must be 30-days current and must be an original

Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Rationale: M'Chigeeng First Nation and its agents are in a position of trust in services to band member children and/or vulnerable adults, so a safe and secure working environment is mandatory. Applicants must provide a VSS clear and/or dated of any convictions relating to sexual interference, sexual assault or related charges. The VSS must be current 30-days and must be an original.
