Mission Public School District is located on the Traditional, Ancestral, Unsurrendered, and Shared territories of Stó:lo people, of Leq'á:mel, Semá:th, Máthxwi, Sq'éwlets and Qwó:ltl'el First Nations, stewards of this land since time immemorial.

Halq'eméylem is the language of this land and of Stó:lo ancestors. The place from where Halqeméylem (Upriver dialect) originates is Leqá:mel. The language comes from the land, and it has been this way since time immemorial.

School: Itinerant Teacher

Position: ELL Department

FTE: 1.0

Grade: ELL Focus

Status: Temporary to June 30, 2025 or until return of the incumbent

Start Date: ASAP

This position encompasses English Language Learners (ELL), English as a second language (ESL). The successful incumbent will work as part of the ELL/ESD team on the development, implementation and delivery of the ELL programs for our students in the district. The incumbent must have familiarity with Language intervention and support programs, particularly for English Language Learners and English as a Second Dialect learners.

The incumbent will be responsible for the testing of returning students and new ELL students. The focus of this position will be interpreting results, generating reports, continued development and implementation of the program and writing annual plans that meet the educational needs of ELL students.

Qualifications:

  • a valid BC teaching certificate
  • Masters of Education degree with coursework in linguistics, second language acquisition, and/or ELL methodology or in the process of obtaining the Masters degree
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous worldviews and perspectives
  • Successful teaching experience and programming at the elementary level
  • Demonstrated record keeping skills and the use of assessment as an effective tool for learning
  • Training and experience in Level B, assessment/testing or in the process of obtaining Level B assessment/testing
  • TESL certification including practicum or equivalent (30 credits at the post secondary institution)

Job Duties:

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize curriculum, learning spaces and individualized programs, specifically Annual Instructional Plans (AIP)
  • Understanding of essential learning outcomes within the new curriculum and the ELL standards
  • Ability to positively contribute to a team environment and collaborate with department staff
  • Ability to engage ELL/ESD learners at all levels
  • Effective written and oral interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in the classroom with teachers and educational assistants

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $57,972-$106,217, with placement on the range based on length of service, FTE and qualifications in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
