Job description

WORK ILLUSTRATION:

Reporting to the Manager, IT Portfolio Management, the IT Technical Consultant provides technical and analytical support, performs troubleshooting functions, implements processes, systems, or projects that contribute to the efficient and effective technical delivery in the operational areas of Information Technology.

The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Analyzes business/functional/technical requirements and specifications for the IT Systems.
  2. Installs, configures, maintains, enhances Information Technology systems software and hardware in accordance with corporate and security standards, for defined area of expertise.
  3. Supports and responds to service outages and incidents.
  4. Supports Information Technology System testing, deployment and upgrade activities.
  5. Creates and maintains documentation to support IT Systems and Processes.
  6. Identifies problems and opportunities for improvement of IT Services, systems or processes.
  7. Troubleshoots and maintains IT systems to improve reliability, capacity, performance.
  8. Performs administrative routines associated with the position.
  9. Familiar with supporting secure print management solutions.
  10. Experience supporting IT asset management tools.
  11. Experience evaluating software licensing and support contracts.
  12. Knowledgeable in ITIL processes and best practices for IT Service Management.
  13. Experienced in executing projects with both Waterfall and Agile methodology.
  14. Designs, defines, and implements scalable and cost-effective IT solutions aligned with business needs.
  15. Works closely with stakeholders to ensure that the technical solution integrates seamlessly with existing systems and infrastructure.
  16. Develops and communicates technical strategies and roadmaps for projects.
  17. Ensures technical architecture follows best practices in terms of scalability, reliability, and security.
  18. Collaborates with development teams to ensure the architecture meets technical requirements and project goals.
  19. Evaluates third-party solutions and recommends best-fit products and services.
  20. Leads the creation of prototypes and proofs of concept to demonstrate solutions.
  21. Ensures technical feasibility and optimal solution delivery within the project constraints (time, cost, scope).
  22. Provides technical guidance to development teams and ensures proper implementation of architectural decisions.

COMPETENCIES:

  1. A post-secondary degree or diploma from a recognized university or college.
  2. At least 7 years of experience in Information Technology and 3 years in solution design.
  3. Expertise in web technologies, content management platforms, and mobile app development, with experience in both Solution Architecture and Technical Consulting roles.
  4. Familiarity with infrastructure support for networks and servers.
  5. Experience in supporting and designing application systems such as Microsoft PowerApps, Alteryx, Exchange, and container-based applications.
  6. Hands-on experience integrating platforms including WebSphere AIP, IBM Integration Bus, IBM ACE, MOVEit, SAP, and Cloud technologies. Proven ability to maintain existing integrations and design new interfaces to accommodate evolving business requirements.
  7. Experience with patching application software to ensure systems remain secure and meet business needs.
  8. Proficient in SQL, Java, Shell Scripting, and Batch Scripts.
  9. Proficient in creating solution blueprint and technical configuration documents.
  10. Advanced knowledge of Windows, Linux, and AIX operating systems.
  11. Skilled in ITIL processes and frameworks.
  12. Solid understanding of device communications, including TCP/IP, PSTN, and wireless mesh networks.
  13. Capable of working effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  14. Able to implement metrics and processes to track progress and achievements.
  15. Creative thinker with a strong focus on innovation and problem-solving.
  16. Effective at managing risks and ensuring they are mitigated.
  17. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  18. Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety awareness in all aspects of work.
  19. Experience within the electrical utility sector is considered an asset.

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
