If so, the City of Edmonton has an exciting opportunity for you!
The Open City & Technology Branch is seeking an exceptional IT Project Manager to guide teams of technical specialists and business professionals deliver technology solutions fit for the City’s evolving business needs. Our diverse portfolio contains multi-year, multi-million dollar, transformational projects, as well as routine infrastructure upgrades.
Current projects highlights include:
- Next Generation 911 IP Call Handling: A multi-phase program to update the City’s emergency response capabilities in compliance with federal mandates. This project involves the collaborative efforts of many internal and external stakeholders, including Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, Edmonton Police Service, telecommunications providers, and technology vendors.
- Permits & Licencing Improvements: A $3 million, four-year project to enhance core citizen services through strategic technology upgrades. This investment builds upon the City's long-term commitment to improving its technology systems and infrastructure.
- Election Logistics Management System Replacement: A critical project focused on implementing a new, robust platform to manage all aspects of municipal and school board elections. This system is essential for ensuring a successful and efficient election in 2025.
What will you do?
- Deliver assigned projects within budget, on schedule, and to the specified scope & quality.
- Take ownership of key project deliverables, including project charters, project management plans, status reports, change requests, completion reports, and all other mandatory documentation for ensuring auditability of activities.
- Provide leadership for project team members, manage team performance, coordinate knowledge transfer, and negotiate with functional managers for resource availability.
- Manage relationships with vendors and external staff, including performance management as needed.
- Transparently identify, communicate, manage, and mitigate project risks.
- Lead meetings and presentations, including those with senior leadership, key stakeholders, the delivery team, and other audiences as required.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with all stakeholders, such as project sponsors, business area clients, external clients, vendors, IT program managers, and peer IT project managers.
- Design and execute change management plans for streamlining communications and influencing stakeholders to achieve project goals.
- Ensure adherence to IT Project Management Office methodology, City of Edmonton standards, and legal requirements.
- Proactively contribute to the community of project management peers.
Qualifications
- Degree in a related discipline and 4 years of full-time equivalent experience in leading projects in an IT environment; OR
- Post-secondary diploma in a related discipline and 6 years of full-time equivalent experience in leading projects in an IT environment.
Assets:
- Completion of a recognized project management program.
- Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Skills required for success:
- Demonstrated ability to apply project management methodologies, standards, and techniques in an IT environment.
- Demonstrated competencies in project schedule management, financial planning & forecasting, scope & risk management, as well as demonstrated skills in timely decision making, prioritizing & delegating work, and dealing with changing priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate discussions & presentations, provide consultation & advice, build client relationships, direct team members, and resolve conflict to accomplish work objectives.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize, schedule, and execute work assignments.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Project or a similar project management platform.
- Proficiency with the Google Workspace productivity suite.

Work Environment:
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
