Project: Onaping Depth

Rotation: 14 days on 14 days off

Shift Length: 11/12 hours

Allowance: Will be provided based on location

Travel: Will be provided based on location

Job Description

The primary role of the Iron worker is to provide direct, or indirect, support of construction activities, by assuming responsibility with assembling, erecting, hoisting, installing, repairing and servicing structural ironwork, in the construction of underground infrastructure.

General RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates and maintains hand and power tools, including welding and cutting equipment
  • Read blueprints and specifications to lay out work
  • Unload and position steel units so each piece can be hoisted as needed
  • Erect and install scaffolding, hoisting equipment and rigging
  • Signal crane operator to position steel units according to blueprints
  • Align and weld or bolt steel units in place
  • Assemble and erect prefabricated metal structures
  • Position and secure steel bars or metal mesh in concrete forms to reinforce concrete structures
  • Install structural metalwork such as curtain walls, metal stairways, railings and power doors
  • Examine structures for deterioration, defects or non-compliance with specifications
  • May dismantle structures and equipment.

Health And Safety

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
  • Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Journeyperson Ironworker Certification, interprovincial certification an asset

Work Experience

  • Previous mining experience an asset
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience as an Ironworker or journey level Ironworker designation

Knowledge Required

  • Experience in welding or construction (preferred)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Basic literacy (read, write, basic math and read blue prints) (required)
  • Self-directed, can work independently within the priorities and structure established by management
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Ability to read, review and understand Standard Work Procedures, safety programs and applicable mine regulations
  • Respectful of cultural differences
