GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The Investigative Assistant is responsible for receiving and processing investigation requests in the Special Investigation Unit (SIU). This position deals with confidential information and activities to detect fraud, support investigations, and assist in protecting corporate assets. The role deals with criminal matters and, therefore, has access to police information and systems to conduct file investigations and compile letters and reports. The Investigative Assistant corresponds with the public, internal staff, members of the law enforcement community, and other investigative bodies.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Prepares investigation files for assignment.
- Receives, handles, and directs telephone and/or in person inquiries from internal and external sources (customers, witnesses, and law enforcement).
- Maintains data for various spreadsheets and systems (e.g., watch lists, release of information, subjects of interest, statistical reports).
- Conducts file investigations, data mining through SGI databases (e.g., GIS, SAM) and law enforcement databases (e.g., CPIC, IEIS, SIMS, PARMS).
- Acts as liaison with law enforcement and other authorized external agencies.
- Obtains and releases confidential information with authorized partner agencies.
- Sets up SIU files, manages file content, and prepares files for storage upon closure.
- Prepares Special Investigation Unit reports, memorandums, letters, and forms.
- Transcribes, proofreads, and performs quality control checks on all printed materials.
- Receives, screens, and directs source information and confidential tips.
- Checks the accuracy of invoices, receiving reports and other documents, and maintains record of budget expenditures.
- Prepares and maintains vehicle records and accounts.

- Proficient knowledge of insurance claim processes and related legal requirements.
- Proficient knowledge of acts and regulations related to information access and protection of privacy.
- Proficient knowledge of police policies, procedures, terminology, and investigative techniques.
- Proficient skill level in transcribing dictated correspondence and documents.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
- One-year certificate from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business or Health Sciences, or defined equivalency.
- Required to meet the background screening requirements of law enforcement agencies to qualify for access to police information systems.
EXPERIENCE
- 1 - 2 years’ experience in insurance or customer service role.
