Job Description
SUMMARY: The SML Specialist prepares business related analyses and research for Supply Chain & Materials Management. The individual prepares forecasts, analyzes trends and related, Inventory or Material Control, Planning and Scheduling and uses the analyses to compile and prepare reports, graphs and charts of data and/or ensure efficient production. This individual is responsible for planning and coordinating the flow of materials and components required for production. They analyze demand, create production schedules, manage inventory levels, and work closely with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES:
Activities and duties will vary dependent upon functional area assigned. Activities may include, but are not limited to:
- General Operations Responsibilities
- Health & Safety: Consistently work in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems. Perform general housekeeping tasks and waste removal within department/group and assists other areas as required.
- ELS: Continuously review current processes and search out improvement methods to improve product/process quality and reduce waste, rework, and unnecessary work that adds no value to the work or process. Support safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Teamwork: Assist and support other team members in meeting department and site goals. Participate and share in performing all tasks necessary to run the facility. Contribute and participate in team decision making. Provide support in project work and other special requests.
- Responsibilities
- Prepares shop work orders for materials and product processing and coordinates with schedulers to ensure that items are being processed according to specifications and time requirements. Maintains progress reports, schedules, and other related records.
- Make comparative cost analyses in order to determine the most effective and efficient options for scheduling, inventory, production, distribution, and transportation.
- Audit invoices to ensure that correct charges have been applied.
- Negotiate prices and rates in accordance to company guidelines and standards.
- Analyze and plan material requirements by determining the quantity and date materials are needed to ensure optimal inventory levels.
- Develop and implement supply chain, material management, and logistics plans that may affect the production, distribution, and inventory of finished products in order to enhance product flow.
- Conduct distribution and network studies, monitor inventory and analyze requirements in order to develop strategies to achieve desired delivery times and order fill rates.
- Maintain appropriate records and prepare reports.
- Coordinate supply chain, material management, and logistics activities with internal/external customers.
- Prepare forecasts and analyze trends in manufacturing, sales, distribution, general business conditions and other related areas.
- Participate or lead process effectiveness and continuous improvement projects.
- Assist in preparing supply chain and material management analysis for use in the development of business strategies and tactics.
- Serve as primary liaison to a business unit to ensure their supply chain, material management, and logistics needs are met. Act as a focal point for interpretation of related policies and procedures.
- Implement lean concepts and continuous improvements regarding supply chain, material management, and logistics systems and processes.
- Demand Forecasting: Analyze historical data, sales forecasts, and production plans to anticipate material requirements.
- Inventory Management: Maintain optimal inventory levels to avoid shortages or excess stock, considering factors like lead times, storage costs, and obsolescence.
- Production Planning: Develop and maintain production schedules that align with customer orders and inventory availability.
- Procurement: Collaborate with purchasing to ensure timely procurement of materials and components, negotiating prices and delivery schedules.
- Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, monitoring their performance and addressing any issues.
- Material Requirements Planning (MRP): Utilize MRP systems to track inventory, generate purchase orders, and manage material flow.
- Logistics Coordination: Coordinate the transportation and delivery of materials, ensuring efficient and cost-effective logistics.
- Quality Control: Collaborate with quality assurance to ensure materials meet quality standards and specifications.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize inventory control, reduce costs, and improve efficiency in the supply chain.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Proven experience in material planning or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles and techniques.
- Strong understanding of the North American sports leagues and how they work (i.e NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL)
- Avid Sports Enthusiast who is able to translate sporting knowledge into key metrics for inventory planning for the business (i.e team performance, key players, calendar special events)
- Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment and able to adapt to special circumstances (i.e player trade, player injury) as needed by the business.
- Proficiency in MRP systems and other relevant software.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.
