Are you looking to kick start your career in Communications and Public Affairs by working with some of the smartest, most creative minds in the business? Hill & Knowlton is looking for a passionate, driven, digitally savvy Intern to join our team in Vancouver or Edmonton. The successful candidate would be part of our team working with clients from a range of sectors, including healthcare, energy & industrials, financial services, technology, and much more.
Our internships are designed to give you hands-on experience working in an agency setting. You’ll have the chance to work on client files, access senior talent, and participate in internal training programs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitors traditional and social media using Cision, Meltwater, Factiva, Eureka, Brandwatch and other sources and prepares reports using customized tools for clients
- Tracks public affairs developments at the provincial or municipal government level including monitoring Question Periods, legislative proceedings, government policy, and political staffing changes
- Drafts a wide range of communications materials (press releases, articles, media and executive briefing documents, government correspondence, social media content, and coverage reports)
- Assists in the coordination of client events (news conferences, media briefings, analyst meetings, media tours, and the like)
- Build and develop social and content engagement plans to build community and public support for client initiatives
- Develop social content in coordination with creative teams to build a presence for client and client issues, including writing long and short form content, editing videos, and designing graphics
- Support social and content strategies in public and corporate affairs as well as consumer communications settings
- Research client and competitor products and services
- Serves as a reliable team member and provides support to peers and clients
- Completes work product and timesheets accurately and in accordance with deadlines
- Proactively works with supervisor to establish and track career goals, training, and skill-building needs
- Exemplifies the company’s ethics, vision, and values in daily work
- Provides sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Proactively seeks and shares relevant information with colleagues and clients
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous PR Internship or relevant leadership role at college/university or in a government/political environment
- Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills
- Knowledge of BC’s political and media landscapes
- Technical savvy and a strong interest in the latest social and content trends
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, creative, and fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well with others and independently as needed
- Positive attitude with a proactive, self-starter approach
- Required proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media; PR & media monitoring software (Cision, Meltwater, Factiva, Eureka, Brandwatch) a plus
The base annual salary for this position at the time of this posting is C$34,944 with a 4% vacation pay on a pro-rated basis for the duration of your internship.
