Your role and responsibilities

The quality and innovation of the engineering of our products, systems, and services allow our clients to stay at the forefront. Developing solutions for our clients worldwide and working on our cutting-edge market technologies will stimulate and enrich your work and mind. The ABB Measurement & Analysis plant in Quebec is a world leader in the field of spectroscopy. Our contract engineering service is the largest Canadian supplier of space optical sensors used for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and for global weather forecasting. Our plant is also recognized for its expertise in the development and manufacture of various products that meet several industrial analysis needs daily. By joining one of the largest engineering departments in Quebec (Canada), you will actively contribute to our clients' projects, as well as to the research and development of our technology. You will be part of a dynamic and stimulating multidisciplinary team within the Measurement and Analysis business unit. As a system engineer/scientist, you will be responsible for developing analysis and remote sensing instruments for defense and security applications and space missions. You must ensure successful delivery of these projects on time, within budget limits, and in accordance with quality and safety guidelines. The sought-after engineer has a developed physical sense, autonomy, aptitude for multidisciplinary teamwork, and experience in research and development for the design and analysis of space systems.

1. Interact directly with the project manager and the client to understand their needs.
2. Be the technical point of contact for our clients and maintain a trusting relationship with them throughout the project phases.
3. Establish and manage system and subsystem requirements, model systems, develop technical budgets and their margins, ensure system compliance, and manage technical risks.
4. Collaborate with the project manager and project engineer to monitor technical actions, plan short-term schedules, and lead weekly project meetings with the technical team using an Agile methodology.
5. Collaborate with the Integration and Test team in developing test plans, defining them, and creating verification and validation strategies.
6. Regularly make presentations, both in English and French, to clients or the technical team during design reviews or other milestones.
7. Define the levels of effort required to achieve current objectives and for new projects.
8. Continuously develop and improve system engineering tools, including Model-based Systems Engineering.

Qualifications for the role

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or applied sciences, or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a system engineer/scientist in infrared optical system development.
• Results-oriented, teamwork, and client communication.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to provide clear and concise documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to follow standardized procedures and methodologies for operational aerospace and suggest simplifications for Aerospace 2.0.
• Proficiency with the following tools: Magic Draw (Model-based Systems Engineering), Windchill (product tree, document tree, management, BOM), Primavera Client (short-term scheduling and task management), SAP (order tracking, etc.), Office suite, Matlab or Python.
• Good knowledge of INCOSE, CMMI, MIL-STD, ISO, and other standards.
• Bilingual in English and French. French is required. English is also required to communicate with customers outside Quebec on a regular basis.
