Overview

Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full time Intermediate Environmental Scientist to join our Environmental Team in Grande Prairie, Alberta or Fort St. John, British Columbia. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing upstream oil and gas projects in accordance with Vertex guidelines and project scopes. This role will have focus on reclamation and vegetation monitoring projects. This individual will play a critical role in the execution of all aspects of the project while delivering a cost-effective approach that exceeds our client’s expectations.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma or higher education related to environmental sciences, biology or other related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 to 7 years of environmental work experience with experience in:
    • Phase 1 and Phase 2 ESAs
    • Remediation
    • Reclamation
    • Groundwater Monitoring
    • Schedule Bs and Detailed Site Assessments
    • Vegetation Monitoring/Reclamation Site Inspections
  • Experience in executing upstream environmental assessment, remediation, and reclamation projects.
  • Willingness to work in the field for extended periods of time; willingness to travel within Western Canada as required.
  • Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of contaminated sites and reclamation regulations in Alberta and British Columbia.
  • Experience with developing assessment, remediation or reclamation cost estimates is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Spend up to 80% of work hours performing technical field activities on environmental projects.
  • Phase 1 and Phase 2 ESAs
  • Remediation
  • Reclamation
  • Groundwater Monitoring
  • Schedule Bs and Detailed Site Assessments
  • Vegetation Monitoring/Reclamation Site Inspections
  • Active stewardship of Vertex and client safety programs is expected.
  • Mentor and coach junior environmental staff.

LOCATION

This position will be based out of Grande Prairie, Alberta or Fort St. John, British Columbia.
