The Emergency Responder / Intermediate is to perform the duties and responsibilities provided below in accordance to Ambipar’s standard operating procedures and performance objectives, while adhering to the applicable health and safety regulations, and professional codes of conduct.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Execute scopes of work and cost estimates under the direction of the designated project leader (Emergency Response Supervisor and/or ER Manager).
  • Any deviation to the scope of work are to be communicated and approved by the project leader prior to implementation.
  • Accurately document and provide daily field activity updates to the project leader for all field and reporting activities as requested.
  • Initiate field work and office tasks as assigned by the project leader, routinely including initial site assessment, containment and recovery tactics, sampling and monitoring, wildlife management, electromagnetic surveys, remediation, waste management, surface restoration, daily field observations and activity updates, technical report writing. Occasionally these tasks may also include stakeholder, client, media and/or regulator communications.
  • Operate under a unified command structure, also known as Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Complete all requested internal and external training courses and exercises.
  • Flexibility to work on call – 24 hours, and being fit for duty while scheduled on call.
  • Adhere to Ambipar Response performance initiatives and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure ground disturbance and safety documentation is completed and filed accordingly on projects assigned.
  • Review and ensure accurate and up-to-date field data is collected and there are no errors based upon what was assigned to complete.
  • Ensure and/or upload all field documentation, including safety forms, to the appropriate folder on Box.net.
  • Routinely communicate the daily progress of assigned projects with the project leader.
  • Provide site supervision and overall direction to the contractors on site.
  • Maintain communication with the Incident project leader within the communication process and Ambipar Response framework.
  • Remain current with environmental legislation and regulatory updates, and review all operations updates which are disseminated internally.
  • Ensure all time and expense entries are submitted at the end of each workday without exception.
  • Maintain a utilization target of 100% and a billable target of 95%. All non-billable time will require pre-approval from supervisor.
  • Completion of technical reports accurately following the approved template by the Reporting Manager, within the time and budget specified by the project leader.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Land reclamation, Agrology, or applicable discipline from a recognized Post Secondary Institution.
  • Maintain compliance with Ambipar and our client’s safety training requirements including Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance Level 2, TDG, Bear Awareness, CSTS-09, and Vehicle Insurance.
  • Maintain compliance with Ambipar's minimum training requirements for this position such as, Incident Command System 100 (ICS100), WCSS Spill Responder Series 100 (SR100), WCSS Spill Responder Series 200 (SR200) and any additional training requested by direct supervisor.
  • Working towards a Professional designation.

HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL (HSEQ) REQUIREMENTS

  • Reviewing and adhering to the company HSEQ policies and procedures as directed by the HSEQ Manager.
  • Complying with policy, rules, standards, procedures, and practices.
  • Correcting hazards as soon as they are observed.
  • Immediately reporting to supervisory personnel all incidents, injuries/illnesses, near misses and hazard IDs.
  • Using equipment and tools (including rentals) as per manufacturer’s specifications and SOPs.
  • Knowing the location, type and operation of emergency equipment and being familiar with site-specific emergency procedures.
  • Refusing to perform work that poses an imminent danger and/or refusing to perform work they are not qualified to perform.
  • Participating in workplace inspections, monthly office, vehicle, and PPE safety inspections as directed by the HSE Manager.
  • Wearing the required PPE to manufacturers specifications.
  • Adhering to all client safety policies, documentation requirements, and orientations.
  • Maintaining compliance with HSE Tracker.
  • Commitment to safety and safety performance – understanding that individual KPI’s affect divisional and organizational HSE targets and goals.
  • Replicon – daily time and expense entry.
  • Utilization and billable targets – 100% / 95% excluding approved non-billable time (internal assignments, holidays, vacation, safety, training, and professional development).
  • Professional development - increasing competency annually.
  • Quality of work – as appraised by immediate supervisor, peers, and clients.
