Position Summary:

The Intermediate DBA plays an important role as part of a growing team that is responsible for managing, building, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting the cloud-based database infrastructure that our mission critical SaaS application runs on.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage and operate large scale production database systems across multiple Azure regions.
  2. Provide direct operational support across all areas of the production database infrastructure including high availability, database replication, release management and disaster planning.
  3. Install, configure, and deploy MS SQL Server using automation and infrastructure as code.
  4. Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, patching and optimization of the databases.
  5. Assist in designing Backup, Recovery and DR strategies.
  6. Develop automation of the database processes, tasks, and procedures.
  7. Develop and maintain documentation on systems management and operational procedures.
  8. Follow operational policies and processes that are compliant with ITIL standards. Participate in change control procedures.
  9. Resolve critical infrastructure incidents as part of on call rotation.
  10. Provide root cause analysis and/or proactively provide recommendations to prevent issues from surfacing.
  11. Work with Engineering teams to optimize queries.
  12. Stay up to date with the trends in the database industry. Use that knowledge to help shape our future database infrastructure.
  13. Support code or release deployment process.
  14. Participate in on call rotation (24x7).
  15. Mentor Junior, or new DBA team members.

Required Experience/Skills

  1. 3+ Years’ Experience in a large scale, mission critical MS SQL Server environment.
  2. Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  3. Experience working with databases in the cloud (Azure preferred – specifically SQL Managed Instance and SQL Database).
  4. Installed and configured database servers (MS SQL 2016+) using various high availability technologies such as Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances.
  5. Experience working with multi-TB highly transactional databases.
  6. Develop and adhere to strong security practices with regards to Authentication, Authorization and Encryption.
  7. Takes an evidence-based approach to all troubleshooting and recommendations.
  8. Strong communication skills.
  9. Ability to work varying hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
  10. Ability to work in a fast pace and rapidly changing environment.
  11. Ability to multitask and work effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously.
  12. Team player, flexible with “get it done” attitude.

Other Desirable Skills:

  1. Experience automating infrastructure deployment using tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
  2. Experience with supporting a multi-tenanted hosting infrastructure with thousands of customers.
  3. Experience in other database systems such as MySQL Postgres, and flavors of NoSQL Databases (such as Cosmos DB, and Influx DB).
  4. Working knowledge of Cloud infrastructure beyond the database (i.e., networking, security and access control, storage, cost optimization, etc.).
  5. Knowledge of Git and JIRA.
  6. PowerShell, Linux, AWS, Redgate, AppDynamics, Azure Data factory, Data Bricks, Grafana.
  7. Experience with HITRUST, HIPPA Compliance and healthcare field.
  8. MCTS, MCITP Certification is a plus.
$96,200 - $103,400 a year
At PointClickCare, base salary is one of the many components that make up our total rewards package. The CAD base salary range for this position is $96,200-103,400 (not overtime eligible) + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by job and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for the position across all CAD locations. Within the range, individual compensation is determined by job-related skills and knowledge, relevant experience including professional and lived experience, and/or work location.
