Job Summary

The School of Creative Arts (SoCA) is seeking an interdisciplinary practitioner and educator to fill a full-time temporary position as a Limited Term Appointment Instructor in the Media Arts program. The School is particularly interested in candidates who can mentor and advise students in their academic and creative pursuits, and demonstrate strong digital concept art skills. In this role, they will teach technology and its ethical implications, integrate theory and practice, foster critical thinking in digital media, and mentor students with diverse career goals. Duties of Limited Term faculty fall within Article 18.2 (Teaching Faculty Duties) of the Collective Agreement, specifically the Teaching and Service components. Along with a seven course teaching load, the successful applicant will also contribute to the life of the School of Creative Arts and University, and are expected to serve on committees and complete extra-curricular service.

We seek an instructor who can address complex student needs, especially those of international students, while demonstrating a commitment to Indigenization and decolonization.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (MFA, Ph.D.) in Media Arts, Animation, Game Design, or a closely related field.
  • The ideal candidate would be able to teach the following courses:
  • Mentor and advise students in their academic and creative pursuits.
  • Candidates with strong digital concept art skills and a demonstrable history of teaching or practicing in this field will be preferred.
  • Experience or ability to teach the following areas is considered an asset: 3D computer animation, motion graphics, visual effects, 2D animation, game design, game development, user experience design, applications of virtual reality, integrated learning design, concept art, virtual production, motion capture, programming languages (including Python, HTML/CSS, C#, C++, VEX), film production, film studies, and generative AI.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite is essential, with experience in other industry tools such as Maya, Houdini, Unreal Engine, Nuke, DaVinci Resolve, or similar software considered an asset.
  • Ability to instruct essential courses within the Bachelor of Media Arts Program, spanning all levels of the curriculum.
  • Be able to advise new curriculum development in Media Arts.
  • A commitment to staying current with industry trends and integrating new technologies and techniques into teaching.
  • Ability to contribute to a vibrant interdisciplinary arts community in the School of Creative Arts.
