Job Description:

NVIT anticipates the need for a full-time continuing instructor for the Indigenous Early Childhood Education program at the Merritt Campus and invites applications from qualified candidates.

Job Summary/Responsibilities:

The full-time continuing instructor will support the development of the IECE department in Merritt and will coordinate program delivery in Indigenous communities. Through an exciting partnership with BC Aboriginal Child Care Society (BCACCS), NVIT will be offering both on-campus and in-community deliveries while developing and retaining future leaders in the field of ECE and providing Indigenous children and families with access to culturally enriched early learning programs. This position will commence once a suitable candidate is found.


Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field as well as Certificate, Diploma, and Degree from a recognized College or University in Early Child Education;
  • Current ECE license to practice;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BC Aboriginal Child Care Society and the Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework;
  • In-depth knowledge of the ECE Registry Standards and accreditation processes.
  • Experience aligning programs with the BC Early Learning Framework.
  • Experience with licensing regulations an asset;
  • Ability to center the cultural resources, practices, and protocols of a community in the design and delivery of IECE programming;
  • Ability to integrate Indigenous knowledge systems, storytelling, and land-based learning into curriculum design.
  • Experience coordinating practicum placements in alignment with provincial requirements.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience with Indigenous adult learners;
  • Understanding of Canada’s colonial history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of being and knowing;
  • A commitment to practice from a holistic, culturally safe and trauma-informed lens;
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures, and Indigenous lived experiences;
  • Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships to achieve outcomes in the best interest of students and NVIT.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and communities to co-develop culturally relevant programming.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with provincial regulators and accrediting bodies.
  • Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset, supporting cultural revitalization and immersive language-based education.
  • Experience developing language-based resources and activities for early childhood education.
