The Environmental Technology Program (ETP) is a long-standing program of the Nunavut Arctic College (NAC). The mandate of the ETP is to develop environmental practitioners to meet the needs of private and public organizations that operate in Nunavut.
Reporting to the Senior Instructor, ETP, the position delivers instruction in both classroom and field settings. The successful candidate will have the expertise and qualifications to instruct in the following areas: Geographic Information Systems, cartography, environmental law and enforcement, and environmental assessment and communications. Additional areas of instruction could include mathematics, first aid, gun safety, and spill response.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are usually obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree related to the position, two (2) years of work experience in a relevant field, and two (2) years of related instruction experience – preferably in a cross-cultural setting. A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence is also required.
Transport Canada approved boat license, boat safety courses, snowmobile proficiency/safety course are assets.
Short-listed candidates may undergo a vulnerable sector check as necessitated by the demographics of the learners participating in the program.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in English is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. We encourage you to apply if you have equivalent years of education and/or experience equal to the education and experience requirements listed above.
As this is a term position, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
