Job Description:
The University of the Virgin Islands is a Historically Black publicly supported land-grant institution. The School of Business is recruiting for a construction management faculty position at the instructor/assistant or associate professor level for someone who will ensure that students meet high academic standards in a nurturing and learner-centered environment in keeping with our HBCU status. We are recruiting faculty candidates with interests, experience and expertise in curriculum innovation and distance education. An applicant’s background should demonstrate teaching, practical experience and scholarly excellence in this area. In addition, our academic programs support our land grant designation by integrating instruction with research and community service. The successful candidate must be able to work productively with students and colleagues of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

The School of Business at the University of the Virgin Islands is seeking individuals who are prepared to teach construction management courses which are designed for students in the certificate and associate of arts degree programs. These courses include construction methods and materials, construction estimating and scheduling, construction finance, computer aided design and construction, and construction contracts and management.

The candidate should be adept at integrating the concepts of general business management courses. The candidate should also have experience with some of the over-arching concepts of construction management including hazard management, green building, fundamentals of project management, project scheduling, construction law, and blueprint reading. The construction management program is dedicated to teaching sustainable construction methods that address the building and energy conservation demands of today. In addition, we seek professors who can provide construction management students with practical hands-on experience in the areas of construction and interior finishes.

Upon completion of the construction management curriculum, students should be prepared to take the contractors examinations for VI licensure. Faculty will also be responsible for advising and recruiting students and collaborating with industry partners to ensure curriculum relevancy.

The School of Business is seeking candidates who will teach 12 credits per semester of certificate and associate degree courses in construction management. The successful candidate should have academic credentials, practical experience, or research in construction management, have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, and model employability skills. Faculty will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the School of Business and the University.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Education Required: Candidates with a PhD in construction management or closely related field are preferred. A master’s degree in construction management or master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours in construction management course work from a regionally accredited university will be considered.

Experience Required:
• Three years relevant industry experience in the construction management field
• Post-secondary teaching experience in construction management or industry training experience
• Demonstrated computer literacy with construction related software.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications: Current industry-recognized certifications within the field of construction management (e.g., certified construction manager, OSHA Construction Industry trainer, etc.) are a plus.

Experience Preferred: Experience in course and program development and course assessment would be a plus. Experience in teaching in multiple modalities (e.g., online, Zoom/ TEAMS, hybrid) is also advantageous. Knowledge of learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace) is beneficial.

Physical Demands:
While performing job duties, employee will be required to stand, walk, sit, reach, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance and color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment: The noise level in the work environment will probably be moderate.
