BCIT’s Learning and Teaching Centre is seeking a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) Instructional Development Consultant. As an Instructional Development Consultant (IDC) you will join a team of professionals who support our instructors as they design courses, develop new programs, review programs and curriculum while supporting the advancement of teaching practice using a wide and evolving range of techniques and educational technologies.

For over 25 years the Institute has invested in the support of quality education through its Learning and Teaching Centre (LTC). To this day the LTC remains one of the largest and most innovative Centres of its type in Canada.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have proven abilities as a post-secondary/adult educator. Must be trained and experienced in the design, development and implementation of curriculum projects, and the design of experiential learning experiences for online, blended and classroom learning using a broad range of instructional tools. The successful candidate will be a proficient project manager. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level must be recent and exemplary. The successful candidate is expected to be a self-starter with the ability to lead both projects and teams in support of our six schools. As an IDC, you will join a team of educators focused on delivering the unique value of a BCIT education; one that is practical, current and career focused.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Adult Education, Curriculum Development, or Educational Technology; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of five years recent, hands-on experience in the areas of: instructional design; post-secondary instruction; business/industry training; educational technology applications; program and curriculum evaluation; instructor development activities.
  • Recent teaching experience that includes full responsibilities for lesson planning, experiential learning, and rubric-based assessment designs, preferably at the post-secondary level.
  • Knowledge of competency-based curriculum and assessment design approach.
  • Knowledge of access and usage of open educational practices, resources, and textbooks.
  • Experience in trades or technology, either as an instructor or a practitioner, an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Establish proactive, positive consulting relationships.
    • Apply exceptional interpersonal skills.
    • Facilitate in a variety of settings.
    • Establish priorities in managing multiple projects.
    • Work both independently and as a team member in a variety of disciplines and at multiple levels within an organization.
    • Work to tight deadlines and exercise sound judgment.
    • Lead project teams in the development of sound instructional products, including those that use existing and emerging educational technologies.
    • Design and develop curriculum that maximizes the benefits of existing and emerging educational technologies.

Salary Range

Salary Range: $65,045 - $113,545 per annum.

Additional Salary Information

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
