A Day in the Life

The Inside Sales Representative is an inside member of an integrated sales team who works in partnership with field sales personnel to sell insulin pump technology to people with diabetes. This role will foster strong relationships with patients, health care providers and territory team members. In addition to accepting full ownership for pre-sales issues initiated by customer and field personnel, the Inside Sales Representative will also be the primary inside customer contact for guiding patients through the pre-sale process of obtaining Endocrinology products.

The Inside Sales (IS) Representative will manage territory base business and growth by selling direct to customer, products and services.

Day in the life:

  • Remotely sells Medtronic's products and retains end-user patients within an assigned geographic area and/or specific customer accounts for pre-defined territory locations to achieve or exceed assigned sales goals.
  • Identify, develop and close leads for the business and refer on internal leads when appropriate.
  • Provides input on new markets, new product introductions, and existing products or supplies.
  • Promotes and establishes education of the company's products and/or services.
  • Manages and responds to customer concerns and problems.
  • Arranges demonstration of products by field sales representatives.
  • Assists the field sales representatives in the planning and execution of sales activities as well as providing ongoing sales support including sales calls, data analysis, customer opportunities, and sales rep follow-up.
  • Responsible for reporting complaints and Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR).
  • Conduct sales calls to promote, sell, and service Medtronic Endocrinology products and services to existing and potential customers.
  • Implement quarterly sales plan to achieve sales goals and objectives and provide regular forecasts.
  • Educate customers and patients regarding the importance of intensive diabetes management and continuous glucose monitoring for patients with diabetes.
  • Provide accurate information on Medtronic systems, product and therapy technical support and services included with the purchase of our technology.
  • Fiscally manage territory by controlling process errors and product returns.
  • Build and maintain relationships with referral sources (Diabetes Clinics) to establish a solid base of business.
  • Assist in establishing the company as the leader in diabetes products in the community by participating in community patient events, JDRF walks, D Skate, etc.
  • Complete administrative reporting as assigned.
  • Utilize approved sales collateral to support promotional and territorial needs.
  • Work closely with TM and DCS to ensure complete sales cycle.

SALES PROFESSIONAL CAREER STREAM: Typically sales professional individual contributors with direct sales responsibilities. May direct the work of other lower level sales professionals or manage sales processes and/or accounts involving multiple team members. The majority of time is spent establishing and maintaining customer relationships, developing new customer relationships, implementing sales strategies and closing sales.

Has a direct impact on achieving department’s sales results. May help to set objectives or goals for individual or team accounts. Works on larger, moderately complex accounts or have a small or medium-sized quota/territory. Understands market landscape, marketing and pricing structure, more influence on pricing structures. Works with sales, marketing and finance to structure complex contracts.

Innovation and Complexity: Makes adjustments or recommends enhancements in sales processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of job area. Recommends changes in account tactics to achieve sales goals. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

Communication and Influence: May influence parties within own job function at an operational level. Obtains or provides information requiring some explanation or interpretation. Communicates with external customers and/or vendors, involving negotiation and/or presentations in order to manage relationships and close sales.

Leadership and Talent Management: Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level sales professionals and/or support employees.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires practical knowledge gained through experience of sales techniques and job area typically obtained through education combined with sales experience. Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues. Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and working knowledge of company products and services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree

JOB EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Demonstrated success in a sales position or equivalent Consumer Care experience, as indicated by level of sales performance against established objectives/goals.
• Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical sales is preferred.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
• Must be a self-starter and a team player, possess a positive attitude
• Must possess strong prioritization and organizational skills with keen attention to detail
• High learning agility
• Must have strong interpersonal communication skills - effectively through written and verbal and active listening
• Strong evaluation and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with selling diabetes device technologies preferred
• Diabetes disease state knowledge preferred
• Strong influencing and negotiating skills
• High degree of empathy
• Knowledge of SAP/Salesforce preferred and fluent with Microsoft suite.
• Bilingual (English and French) an asset
• Other duties as assigned
