Infanteer / Infanterie - [Military Position / Position Militaire]

Princess of Wales' Own Regiment
Kingston
CAD 80,000 - 100,000
Job description

This job posting is for a Canadian Army Primary Reserve Infanteer position with the Princess of Wales' Own Regiment.

Infantry Soldiers are the Army’s primary combat fighters and are responsible for closing with and engaging the enemy. They are the core members of the Combat Arms team, which includes Artillery and Armoured Soldiers.

Infantry Soldiers are capable of operating anywhere in the world in any environment – Arctic tundra, mountains, jungle or desert – and in any combination of arms, including airmobile and amphibious operations. The primary duties of an Infantry Soldier are to:

  • Expertly operate and maintain a wide range of weapons, including rifle, hand-grenades, light, medium and heavy machine-guns, and anti-tank weapons.
  • Use sophisticated equipment for field communications, navigation and night-vision surveillance.
  • Inspect and maintain weapon systems, vehicles, survival gear and personal defensive equipment.
  • Participate in airborne operations.
  • Operate with support elements such as fighter aircraft, tactical and artillery.
  • Engage in unarmed combat.
  • Employ camouflage and concealment, patrol, assault, defence, and escape-and-evasion tactics.

Reservist Pay is not standardized by hour or salary. It is instead regulated by whether you are part-time ('Class A') or full-time ('Class B') or deployed ('Class C'), your rank level, and years at that rank level. See https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/benefits-military/pay-pension-benefits/pay/reserves.html for more information about Reserve Pay.

Hours per week can vary. Between the months of September through April, Reserve members are expected to attend one training night a week (i.e., The PWOR does Thursday evenings), plus one weekend a month. These training events are highly encouraged for maximum attendance, but we are also flexible to those who have occasional competing commitments (school, civilian work, family, travel, sickness, etc.).

From May through to the end of August, our part-time training calendar shuts off in exchange for full-time employment opportunities. Reservists with the PWOR can find themselves fully employed for up to 4 months - summer full-time employment offers you the flexibility to balance civilian commitments with the military requirement to become qualified in your selected occupation by completing Basic Training (5 weeks) and your Initial Occupation Training (6 weeks) in the next two years post-enrolment.

Reservists remain a lot of choice in their employment. They can choose to deploy, or choose to release within 30 days without contractual obligations. They choose their unit for employment, and cannot be forced to deploy or work on short notice without consent.
