Industrial Designer – (3D-Printed Human Wearables)

OssKin is a fast-growing Montreal-based MedTech company shaping the future of human wearable devices in the emerging 3D-printed Medical Device and Orthopedic industries, all while using our proprietary mass customization software and 3D printing technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Support team in product development and features through their entire creative cycle: user research, ideation, specification, development, release, analysis, and iteration.
  • Create Class-A production-ready 3D CAD surfaces and solid bodies using SolidWorks across multiple projects and product categories.
  • Perform in-depth on the field user research and user experience.
  • Utilize good aesthetic and mechanical sensibilities to conceive elegant solutions to complex geometric, ergonomic and mechanical challenges driven by gathered user research and user experience.
  • Communicate design ideas effectively through sketches, 3D renderings and presentations.
  • Oversee and execute the development and manufacturing of physical prototypes for testing.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and engineers to evaluate product prototypes in order to determine production feasibility and costs.
  • Plan and execute mechanical designs using CAD (SolidWorks, a must).
  • Perform computer simulations and experiments to virtually test and refine the designs.
  • Iterate and refine designs based on test feedback, ensuring products meet safety and performance standards.
  • Prepare detailed tech packs and manufacturing documentation that effectively communicate designs and how to build products to manufacturers.
  • Prepare technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, marketing managers and software development team to integrate design concepts seamlessly into the product development process.
  • Market Research and Trend Analysis - Stay informed on industry trends, materials and manufacturing processes related to orthotic & prosthetic, and exoskeleton devices.
  • Integrate market insights into design concepts to create products that resonate with target audiences.

Qualifications:

  • DEC or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design and/or Product Design.
  • +3 years of professional experience in Industrial or Product Design (wearables, sports goods, or medical devices is a plus).
  • SolidWorks proficiency (a must).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling using Surface and Parametric modeling.
  • Possess a deep understanding in areas of materials & manufacturing processes (3D-printing, injection molding, CNC machining, and metal forming/casting/extrusion/stamping).
  • Experience managing complex part interactions and assemblies.
  • Experience in hands-on prototyping, without relying solely on virtual design tools.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Office Suite.
