POSITION SUMMARY:

As an Indigenous Museum Educator, under the guidance of the Indigenous Learning and Programs Manager and work supervision of the Lead Indigenous Museum Educator, you will be pivotal in delivering dynamic, culturally relevant educational programming. This part-time position involves creating and presenting in-person and online content, utilizing Indigenous pedagogical methods tailored to our learners' needs and experiences. You will be an integral member of a dedicated team, collaborating with other educators and digital learning specialists to foster a vibrant learning community focused on engaging students and educators in museum education.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Craft and deliver educational programs that resonate with Indigenous lived experiences, utilizing contemporary and Indigenous pedagogical approaches. Stay informed about Indigenous knowledge, ROM's research and collections, and educational policies to ensure programming relevance and responsiveness.
  2. Utilize digital tools to provide engaging distance learning experiences, maintaining a strong connection with Indigenous perspectives. Contribute significantly to ROM's online learning platforms, ensuring the accuracy and relevance of cultural content.
  3. Work closely with the School Engagement team and fellow educators to develop new, inquiry-based learning programs that reflect Indigenous knowledge and perspectives and support anti-racist and anti-oppressive educational practices.
  4. Actively participate in training sessions to enhance your pedagogical skills and apply them to developing and teaching programs. Engage with the Indigenous Advisory Circle to connect with community insights and needs.
  5. Assist in setting up and managing lab and gallery resources, including digital and artmaking equipment, ensuring a seamless educational experience for all participants.
  6. Assist with special projects and programs and support other tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A four-year degree in Indigenous Studies, Education, a related field, or equivalent experience in Indigenous teachings and knowledge. Additional teaching certifications are an asset.
  2. At least two years of experience in educational settings, demonstrating a capacity to develop and deliver engaging programs based on Indigenous perspectives. Experience with online educational platforms and digital tools is required.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with a strong foundation in Indigenous pedagogy and knowledge. Proficiency in digital, audio, and visual technology for educational purposes is essential.
  4. First Nations, Métis, or Inuit ancestry, and fluency in French or Indigenous languages are considered significant assets.

HOURLY RATE: $29.54 - $33.76
SCHEDULE: up to 24 hours weekly
