The Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) invites applications for an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Research & Innovation Educator position. This full-time, fixed-term position is for two years, with the possibility of extension.
This role reports to the Program Manager, OCEC, and is additionally accountable to the Associate Vice President, Research EDI. Working closely with the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) EDI team, this position supports the University of Calgary's (UCalgary's) commitment to the CFREF EDI Action Plan. With the support of the Office of the Vice President Research, this position advances the institutional commitments to IDEA education and training in research and innovation.
This role will be part of the One Child Every Child Program, a Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) initiative. In 2023, the CFREF invested $125 million in University of Calgary's One Child Every Child: A Transformational Child Health Research Initiative, with a vision for all Canadian children to be the healthiest, most empowered and thriving in the world. This ground-breaking initiative will drive discovery and innovation by bringing together researchers, community partners, health-care providers, educators, trainees, stakeholders, Indigenous communities and equity deserving groups, including but not limited to women, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S+ persons, and at their intersections to build the foundation for global excellence and leadership in research to enable every child and community to thrive.
The UCalgary's One Child Every Child (OCEC) CFREF is the first major research initiative in Canada to enact "parallel paths" with Indigenous and mistikosiwak peoples alongside a distinct approach for "equitable pathways" for each equity-deserving group (EDG) shaped by the foundational principles of "nothing about us, without us" and "one-size-does-not-fit-all". This approach recognizes similarities, differences, and intersections rather than sameness or identical paths. Collaboratively, the parallel paths and equitable pathways focus on three themes as follows:
All members of the program will perform training on work with Indigenous people, communities and data. Experience with Indigenous community-based work is an asset for members of the OCEC research team.
