Maritime Electric Company, Limited is seeking interested candidates for the following position:
Human Resource Specialist
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Specialist provides support to all of Maritime Electric’s operations and functions. This position’s key focus area will involve benefit administration, as well as recruitment, training support, performance management and other Human Resource initiatives. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years of recent experience as a human resource professional and an undergraduate degree in a related discipline. Experience in benefits administration, recruiting, and a CPHR designation are considered assets.
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and knowledge:
- Strong professional writing and oral communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the Company;
- Knowledge of Provincial Labour, WCB, Payroll and Human Resources legislation;
- Strong computer and organizational skills;
- Demonstrate good judgment when responding to critical situations;
- Be a self-motivated team player, with excellent problem-solving skills.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Administering and managing aspects of the company's benefits programs, including retirement plan(s), group health insurance, and wellness initiatives;
- Providing on-going coaching and guidance to directors, managers and supervisors on a wide range of HR issues;
- Consulting with hiring managers to identify hiring needs, and supporting the interviewing, onboarding functions and assist in the new employee orientation program;
- Assisting with policy development and implementation;
- Coordinating employee engagement activities and events;
- Supporting all employees in the area of attendance management as well as benefit administration;
- Promoting a positive labour environment by working effectively with our union to resolve issues in a proactive, timely manner;
- Advising and assisting employees on HR policies and procedures as well as solving compliance challenges;
- Remaining current on HR trends and best practices to better support the business.
This position offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits package. The pay range for this position is between $70,000 and $85,000 per annum.
