Job Summary
Reporting to the CEO, the Human Resources Manager is an integral Leadership team member responsible for guiding and managing the human resources function. The HR Manager is responsible for strategic planning, directing, executing and managing all human resources initiatives, recruitment, compensation, benefits, training, and employee relations. The HR Manager also ensures policies, procedures, and HR programs are consistently administered, aligned with organizational goals, and follow professional standards, regulatory requirements, and laws.
Responsibilities
HR Leadership / Strategic Compliance
- Developing and implementing organizational human resources policies, ensuring compliance with local legislation
- Directing recruiting and onboarding for new employees, responsible for effective diverse and equitable talent acquisition and carrying out all aspects of an inclusive hiring process
- Developing training and career development programs
- Working collaboratively with the senior management team to develop organization strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues
- Managing human resources operations by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, and counselling staff
- Developing human resources operations financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements
- Providing guidance and direction to all levels of management regarding the interpretation, administration and implementation of human resource policies and procedures
- Ensuring legislative compliance to all applicable laws and regulations and the effective administration of compensation programs including, but not limited to, benefits and payroll, health & safety, HRIS and employee file maintenance, and employee onboarding/offboarding programs
- Participating in the formation of total compensation packages based on market information and the company’s compensation benchmarks, preparing research and analysis for total pay and benefits
- Supporting employee engagement, culture, and team-building events
Administrative
- Responsible for coordinating the onboarding process for new hires, including orientation, office asset and equipment provision and mandatory training delivery
- Communicating with employees and responding to employee queries and needs in a timely, conscientious, and confidential manner
- Maintaining effective working relationships with management and staff by communicating HR policies and procedures, employment standards, laws, and regulations
- Administration for the benefits portal, including enrolment of new employees, answering employee queries and updating information where needed
- Maintaining Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) records, ensuring data accuracy through self-audits and reports
- Coordinating with Accounting, Payroll and IT for payroll updates and management of company assets
- Updating the leadership team regarding current employee count, terminations, new hires, assets, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- At least five years of human resource management experience
- A CHRP/CHRL designation is preferred
- Experience with the development of onboarding and performance management programs
- Experience with the recruitment cycle, creating job descriptions, job postings, reviewing resumes, interviewing, etc.
- Experience with compensation design, pay equity and market evaluations
- Experience with evaluating benefits plans for their effectiveness and ability to attract and retain employees
- Able to handle sensitive material with confidentiality and discretion
- Exceptional capacity for managing and leading people. A team builder with experience supporting strategic direction
- Willingness to travel between our locations across Central & Northern Ontario as required
- Proficient in G-Suite, MS Office, Adobe, Virtual meeting platforms and other relevant software applications and are comfortable assisting others with using technology
- Familiarity with HRIS systems (ADP) and experience with HRIS systems is considered an asset
- Candidates must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
