Position:

Human Resources Generalist
Location: Kapuskasing, ON (Sawmill)

GreenFirst is looking for an HR Generalist to be accountable for contributing to the site’s Human Resources (HR) function by playing an advisory role and demonstrating influential leadership as well as by providing expertise in various HR fields such as:

  1. Performance management
  2. Recruitment of staff and unionized employees
  3. Hiring and onboarding
  4. Absenteeism management
  5. Labor relations
  6. Organizational development
  7. Training needs assessment
  8. Benefits to assigned business units

Responsibilities:

  1. Promote and support the Health & Safety programs to increase employee awareness.
  2. Maintain a communications program to keep your team informed regarding mill and department priorities.
  3. Support compliance with collective agreement and sound union/management/employee relations.
  4. Build and maintain a business relationship with stakeholders (managers, supervisory teams and employees), understand their needs and issues and play a key role in the realization of their business objectives.
  5. Assist and coach managers and supervisory teams in the day-to-day challenges pertaining to employee management as well as the application of HR policies and programs.
  6. Participate, in collaboration with stakeholders, in the identification of training needs for both staff and unionized employees.
  7. Oversee/report on Site Absenteeism Management Program.
  8. Manage scheduling (Training, Onboarding, Vacation Management).
  9. Track and report on Overtime standards.
  10. Provide consistent interpretation and counsel for the collective agreements application in alignment with business priorities and objectives.
  11. Coach managers and supervisory teams on the disciplinary process.
  12. Collaborate with stakeholders in preparation of negotiations.
  13. Provide regular reviews of the workforce requirements to achieve operational goals and forecast job vacancies.
  14. Actively participate in the recruiting process – Provide Labour Status Reports.
  15. Lead and participate in the onboarding program for new and seasonal employees.
  16. Conduct exit interviews with employees who are leaving the Company.
  17. Apply and ensure effective implementation of HR policies and procedures in compliance with applicable legislation.
  18. Assist and support all return-to-work (RTW) initiatives.
  19. Assist and support all STD/LTD Claims/Submissions.
  20. Keep up-to-date with HR trends and regulation changes.
  21. Collaborate and participate in special projects as assigned.
  22. Act as Management Representation on various Joint Committees.
  23. Provide Human Resources support to Site’s General Manager.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, or Business Administration.
  2. Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP is an asset).
  3. 5+ years experience in an industrial unionized environment.
  4. Business acumen, sound judgement, strong analytical skills and ability to multi-task.
  5. Leadership, interpersonal and communications skills.
  6. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and best practices.
  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
  8. Bilingual: English and French (spoken and written) – an asset.
