Scope Of Position
Acts as a consultant to all business groups across all aspects of HR including associate relations, recruitment, compensation, talent management, organization design, performance management, health and safety, training and career development. The HR Generalist is responsible for the implementation and success of HR policies and initiatives. The HR Generalist will work collaboratively with leaders and associates at all levels to enhance associate engagement, while ensuring compliance with legislative and company policies and guidelines.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
Associate Relations/Performance Management

  • Address associate concerns and inquiries. Conduct complex investigations and disciplinary matters with support of manager.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and guidelines according to the Associate Handbook, corporate policies and relevant governmental regulations and legislation including Employment Standards and Human Rights.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of associates, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provide performance management guidance to all levels of management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions) provoking positive changes in the management of people and performance improvement.
  • Responsible for policy development and implementation.
Workforce Planning, HR Projects and Strategy
  • Support development of strategies for people management, succession planning, and talent management for key managerial and critical role positions and for stakeholders.
  • Support People Leader in the development, implementation and evolution of the HR Strategy and ensure resources are managed strategically.
  • Work closely with management to understand and address business issues while leveraging opportunities to develop strategic HR initiatives.
Associate Engagement
  • Measure organizational health and lead appropriate associate engagement and reward and recognition strategies.
  • Responsible for the Associate Engagement Survey (administration and analysis of results).
  • Analyze data and conclude action items with the Management team to ensure driving cultural alignment and positive associate relations and drive business performance.
Training and Development
  • Partner with leaders to understand and define individual training needs for associates. Identify development solutions and work together with the leadership to track progress and ensure gaps are closed.
  • Responsible for developing the annual corporate training plan, and conducting skills assessments.
  • Source, coordinate and schedule approved internal training courses.
  • Conduct training and info sessions as required.
Disability Management, Compensation And Benefits
  • Management of STD, LTD and WSIB claims; coordinating Return to Work and accommodation process.
  • Support biweekly payroll and answer any questions.
  • Lead and support the annual HR performance cycle including merits and bonuses.
  • Partner with Payroll, compensation and benefits as needed.
Recruitment and Selection
  • Lead the end-to-end recruitment of all of Honda Trading Canada (sourcing, interviews, offer, onboarding).
  • Work with recruitment agencies/consultants on hard to fill positions.
Qualifications / Skills
Education and Knowledge and Experience
  • A post-secondary degree/diploma is required.
  • CHRP is required. CHRL in progress or completed is preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable legislation (i.e. Employment Standards Act, Human Rights, OHSA, etc.) is required.
  • Health and safety knowledge is required.
  • 3-5 years of HR Generalist work experience is required.
  • Workday or other HRIS experience an asset.
  • Efficient and accurate PC skills using Word, Excel are required.
  • Strong PowerPoint skills are an asset.
  • Previous recruitment experience is required.
