Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications and renewable energy.

Valard Construction LP is looking to hire a full-time Human Resources Generalist. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the HR Generalist works with all levels of stakeholders on day-to-day HR activities and inquiries concerning compensation, benefits, recruitment, training, and project support. The HR Generalist may also be required to shift priorities and dedicate a significant amount of time to special projects and assignments as they arise.

1. Employee Relations:

  • Support the implementation of corporate Human Resources policy and programs.
  • Administer documentation such as offer letters, discipline letters, verification of employment letters, and termination and severance letters.
  • Generate employee and resource reports as needed for managers such as hiring/terminations/layoffs, sick days, and vacation.
  • Assist managers to understand and administer progressive discipline.
  • Understand local employment market conditions to ensure fair and equitable pay practices.
  • Work collaboratively with other HR staff to ensure consistent administration of HR best practices.
  • Work with managers to identify organizational issues that impact the ability to achieve business objectives.
  • Partner with management to identify best practices for workforce and succession for key positions.
  • Act as primary contact for day-to-day HR inquiries including providing advice to management or employees on issues of policy and processes at Valard.

2. Compensation and Benefits:

  • Assist in the overall compensation review including job analysis, compensation design, and administration with the Project Lead; perform necessary tasks as assigned.
  • Support Benefits Specialist with the reconciliation of benefit premiums.
  • Assist with the administration of benefits for new hires, rehires, and terminations.
  • Work with Valard stakeholders supporting Wage Adjustments & Promotions as required and in conjunction with Valard's compensation program, ensuring all appropriate approvals are in place.

3. Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding:

  • Lead recruitment activities: identifying the key position and training requirements for a position, source out and conduct various job advertising methods, screen candidate resumes, conduct interviews and make effective selection recommendations.
  • Ensure appropriate approvals are in place for new hires.
  • Assist Managers with job descriptions as required.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries, email, and website applications.
  • Facilitate the interview process with the hiring Manager.
  • Draft offer letters, ensuring internal consistency and fairness as it relates to wage, allowances, incentives and other compensation considerations.
  • Forecast new hires for the purposes of IT equipment inventory.
  • Assist in scheduling HR, training, and safety orientation for new hires.
  • Onboard new hired employees; ensure the completion of the hiring package documentation, deliver HR Orientation on the TFSA, company RRSP, Benefit plan & Profit sharing programs.

4. Special Projects and Assignments:

  • Assist the Project Lead for Compensation project/program with various tasks as assigned.
  • Audit employee files as required.
  • Audit HR Sharepoint Site ensuring documentation is up to date.
  • Conduct policy review, ensuring policies are up to date, approved, and published accordingly.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in Business Administration/Commerce/Management.
  • Possess or are working towards a CPHR designation is considered an asset.
  • 5+ years of Human Resources or related experience.
  • Construction related experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of compensation principles.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest level of confidentiality.
