Job Overview: GrizzlyTrek Group Ltd. is looking for a skilled and bilingual Health and Safety Officer for a full-time position in mine maintenance in the picturesque town of Mont-Laurier, QC. This role offers an excellent balance between career growth and quality of life in a town renowned for its outdoor activities.
Summary: This role will provide health and safety program support for the company and direct health and safety guidance to Operations. The HS Officer will have primary responsibility to design, adapt, implement and maintain the company’s health and safety management system. The HS Officer will understand HS compliance requirements, build and manage HS programs, and advise project teams on HS standards and reporting. This role will report to the HS Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help design and cultivate a behavior-based HS culture in the company.
- Design, implement and maintain the company's HS Management System.
- Ensure that HS compliant standard work procedures and systems are developed, implemented, understood and monitored.
- Ensure that incidents are reported, recorded, and translated into system or behavioral improvements.
- Ensure that all team members are adequately trained in HS standards and requirements.
- Attend safety/toolbox meetings and communicate expectations to address team member concerns.
- Provide safety expertise, coaching and mentorship.
- Officer HS initiatives and continuous improvement plans, including transparent HS KPI's and statistics.
- Develop reports on compliance, improvement, and workforce engagement.
- Participate in operational and major hazard risk assessments and audit activities.
- Take part in incident investigations and ensure reporting is completed with closure action plans.
- Investigate near misses and non-conformity in line with client guidelines.
- Assume responsibility for operational management of safety.
- Oversee security screenings and ensure compliance with established procedures.
- Supervise and provide health and safety training.
- Prepare and follow up on security audits according to the schedule.
- Ensure certification of subcontractors and visitors in terms of health and safety.
- Attend training sessions to update technical and managerial knowledge.
- Complete assigned special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual in French and English.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience in construction, manufacturing, mineral exploration, mining, or related fields.
- University degree/Diploma in occupational health & safety or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Understanding of health and safety issues and risks in mineral exploration and knowledge of relevant legislation.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
- Experience implementing and supporting safety programs, workplace inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Basic First Aid Certificate.
- Ability to guide supervisory staff on safety matters through active listening and communication.
- Strong analytical and research skills with a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to facilitate in-house safety training.
- Knowledge to interpret and apply relevant regulations and legislation.
EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of provincial, federal, and local regulations.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Autonomy and organization.
- Ability to communicate fluently in French and use various computer applications.
