About The Role

We are looking for a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor to enhance the HSE standards at our aluminum smelter site, focusing on contractors. You'll play a pivotal role in the Contractor Management Excellence (CMX) team, coordinating HSE activities and providing guidance to both internal and external stakeholders on Rio Tinto's HSE processes, systems, and framework.

This role is a great opportunity for a dedicated and passionate HSE professional to join our team to make impactful change for our contractors on site.

Reporting to the Contractor Management Excellence Team Lead, and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

  • Supporting the implementation of Risk Reduction activities across site through coaching both Rio Tinto and contractor leaders on risk management tools.
  • Recommending and assisting with the implementation of best practices.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and company policies and standards.
  • Facilitating incident investigations for contractor-related incidents.
  • Providing insights and preparation activities for HS&E audits and inspections.
  • Facilitating and participating in educational avenues such as the monthly contractor meeting.
  • Training and educating Rio Tinto and contractor leaders on HSE programs.
  • Playing a key role in building a culture of interdependence.
What You’ll Bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • A tertiary qualification in health, safety, engineering, or related field, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience (minimum of a high-school diploma).
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety standards and regulations.
  • Experience working within a safety role or operational role in an industrial work setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Possession of at least a B.C. Class 7 Driver's license or an equivalent from another province.
Please note that fly-in, fly-out opportunities are not available. However, a domestic relocation package will be offered to eligible candidates.

The base salary range for this role is $86,560 - $129,840 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto.
