The successful applicant may be eligible for an annual full-time incentive of up to $2,000 each year until 2025 as per MOU #31 of the current MNU collective agreement.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the O.R. Manager, Health Services, the incumbent is responsible for the promotion and compliance with the HSC mission, objectives, goals, policies, and procedures for perioperative nursing; providing continuity of care throughout the perioperative period, using scientific and behavioral practices with the eventual goal of meeting the individual needs of the patient undergoing surgical intervention. Expected practice behaviors include assessment, planning, implementation of perioperative nursing interventions, and evaluation.

In addition, the incumbent participates in continuing education activities directed towards personal and professional growth and development; participates in research activities that support and enhance perioperative nursing practice and in departmental Quality Assurance and Improvement activities.

Experience

  • Current related perioperative nursing experience/training required or successful completion of an accredited program in Operating Room Nursing.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing required.
  • CNA Perioperative Nursing Certification preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Requires effective communication skills to facilitate decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to function in stressful situations.
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative and assume responsibility.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant walking, standing, bending, and stooping. Pushing and pulling heavy objects such as beds, wheeled equipment such as microscopes, compressed gas tanks, etc.
  • Stands for sustained periods.
