Job description

Our client is a growing boutique law firm in downtown Vancouver. They are adding an HR Generalist position to their team. We are looking for someone with a solid understanding of HR functions. You will be a key contributor in supporting a high-performing environment with integrity, professionalism, and good humour.

We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic multi-tasker who enjoys a fast-paced environment, challenging work, and providing great client service. You will report to the COO and the Strategic Planning Committee.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Creating and maintaining job postings, screening candidates, managing the recruitment process, coordinating employment offers, conducting reference and background checks, and supporting the firm’s law student recruitment processes.
  2. Managing and coordinating the onboarding process, including scheduling orientation, training, and setting up service subscriptions.
  3. Ensuring compliance for all reporting and records retention.
  4. Maintaining employee records, including files and HRIS data.
  5. Administering and maintaining vacation, sick days, and coordinating staff coverage.
  6. Administering leave programs (maternity/paternity/medical).
  7. Managing benefits administration, including payment.
  8. Establishing, monitoring, and managing performance expectations.
  9. Conducting performance reviews.
  10. Supporting the development and implementation of training programs.
  11. Coordinating and managing the staff compensation review process.
  12. Maintaining staff birthdays.
  13. Supporting conduct investigations.
  14. Managing offboarding and coordinating terminations, including conducting exit interviews.
  15. Chairing the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  16. Coordinating and managing all social events.
  17. Coordinating and supporting the firm’s marketing initiatives.

Qualifications:

  1. Completion of an HR certificate or diploma is required.
  2. A minimum of two years’ experience in Human Resources.
  3. Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and Outlook.
  4. Knowledge in employment and privacy regulations including Employment Standards Act, Workers Compensation Act, Human Rights Act, PIPA, and PIPEDA.
  5. Proven ability to build trust with all levels of employees within the workplace.
  6. Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication.
  7. Strong critical thinking, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  9. Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  10. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  11. Ability to take initiative.
  12. Ability to work independently and with a team.
