We support a network of engaged and independent optometrists by providing business management and personal resources to ensure/assist with their success.

Position:

We are seeking a full-time HR Advisor to join our HR team on a 12-18 month maternity leave contract.

Job Summary

Eye Recommend is seeking a skilled and knowledgeable HR Advisor to join our team on a 12-18 month contract. Reporting to the Specialty Business Coach Manager, the HR Advisor will play a key role in providing expert HR advice and support to independent optometry practices across Canada.

Working closely with the HR Specialty Business Coaches and Specialty Business Coach Manager, the HR Advisor will collaborate with independent optometry practice owners and office managers, offering expert advice on HR best practices, policies, processes, and employment legislation to help them achieve their business goals.

The HR Advisor plays a key role in developing and delivering essential tools, resources, and training to support the success of each independent optometric practice. This position acts as a vital bridge between Eye Recommend's membership and independent optometry practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert HR guidance on matters such as absence management, recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Build strong relationships with members, offering trusted advice to optimize leadership and operational effectiveness.
  • Interpret and provide guidance on HR policies, processes, and procedures to enhance productivity, efficiency, and retention.
  • Draft communications and respond to HR queries from member practices.
  • Review employee handbooks and policies, offering improvement recommendations.
  • Stay up to date with changes in employment legislation and notify practices of upcoming legislation changes.
  • Develop and deliver HR training materials tailored to member needs.
  • Lead HR training sessions in partnership with HR Specialty Business Coach, presenting as an HR subject matter expert at both in-person and online webinars.
  • Assist in creating new tools and resources to support practice growth.
  • Act as a liaison with members at Eye Recommend events.
  • Provide coverage for the HR Specialty Business Coach in Eastern Canada, as needed.
  • Contribute to HR projects and new initiatives as required.

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of HR experience in employee relations, legislation interpretation, and general HR services.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and develop tools, resources, and training for independent optometry practices.
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to implement solutions in fast-paced environments.
  • Solid knowledge of Employment Standards and Human Rights legislation, with a focus on Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba; experience in Eastern provinces is an asset.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with confidence in addressing large audiences and representing the organization at events.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, and manage shifting priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to build effective relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to travel to member practices when necessary.

This full-time, 12-18 month contract role is based at our Calgary Head Office and requires occasional travel to member practices as needed. This role requires independence, initiative, and a commitment to continuous learning.
