The 53 North Collection is searching for a contract Controller to lead the finance function for three independent boutique properties. This is a property-based contract position supporting The Matrix Hotel in downtown Edmonton and the Metterra and Varscona Hotels on Whyte Avenue. We are committed to providing you with:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING – JOB SPECIFICS

Reporting to the Area General Manager, this position's essential functions include:

  • Acts as the “Chief Business Officer” to the general manager and EC Team, responsible for evaluating the financial impact on business decisions.
  • Ensure that all levels of management are promptly notified of any financial deviations from established policies and/or control weaknesses in the hotel.
  • Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues, including the accurate and timely preparation of cash-flow statements.
  • Monitor hotel revenues and expenses ensuring accurate recording in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Monitor, manage and maintain property management leasing agreements with multiple vendors.
  • Assist management with capital planning processes and evaluate scope of work and specifications.
  • Ensure hotels’ compliance on all regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, and operational taxes.
  • Coordinate the completion of all forecasts and budgets with the participation of EC Team and department managers.
  • Analyze financial data and operations to assist management in maintaining hotels’ financial objectives.
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a timely basis.
  • Establish and audit all internal financial controls.
  • Focus on training and development programs for finance associates.
  • Hire, train, supervise and develop staff.
  • Maintain compliance with Crescent Hotels and Resorts standards.

WHO YOU ARE - QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of related progressive experience in hotel Accounting or related field; or a 4-year college degree with an Accounting/Finance concentration and a minimum of 4 years of related progressive experience; or a 2-year college degree and a minimum of 6 years of related progressive experience.
  • CPA/CFA preferred.

Experience

Previous multi-property Hotel Controller or Finance Director experience required.
