Homelessness Outreach Worker – Housing Services

Location: Powell River/qathet Regional District

Salary Or Wage: $25.05 per hour

Start Date: As soon as possible

List of Requirements

1. Familiar with local community resources
2. Basic understanding of street culture
3. Ethically aligned with Harm-Reduction practices
4. Knowledge of mental health diagnoses, medications, treatment and support resources
5. Demonstrates excellent communication and active listening skills
6. Demonstrates concise and ethical documenting skills
7. Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain client confidentiality
8. Ability to remain calm and responsive during crisis incident response
9. Awareness of cultural safety
10. Reliable transportation and a valid Drivers License
11. Requires Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check clearance

List of Duties

1. Provide support and assistance to people experiencing homelessness across qathet
2. Working from a harm reduction perspective, assist people who are experiencing homelessness by ensuring safer substance use strategies, food, sanitation and social supports are in place
3. Work in conjunction with the Lift team, VCH outreach teams and/or community colleagues to engage vulnerable individuals and assist them in accessing health, housing, social services, and shelter as available
