Uniacke Estate Museum Park is seeking a Heritage Program Assistant to join our team. This position is subject to approval of federal funding. The ideal candidate is a university or college student who is studying a general arts program, history, theater, archaeology, anthropology, library, or communications studies. They possess a knowledge and strong interest in the cultural and natural history of Nova Scotia and its museums. They are a self-motivated individual who works well independently and participates fully in a team environment. They have exceptional interpersonal skills, are enthusiastic about engaging with diverse visitors and are comfortable with public speaking. They value the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of work.
Main duties include providing tours to the public both inside the museum and outdoors, helping the Interpretive staff deliver the school program and other events, helping the Interpretive staff develop and deliver a new outdoor program with focus on the natural environment and the local Indigenous population.
The candidate must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution for the Fall of 2025. They must be registered in the Young Canada Works (YCW) on-line candidate inventory (https://young-canada-works.canada.ca) and meet the eligibility criteria of the program.
They are proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), have excellent organizational skills, and strong communication skills (written and verbal).
Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. The successful candidate must also successfully complete appropriate vulnerable background checks.
Work Location: Uniacke Estate Museum Park, 758 Highway 1, Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia. This site is not on a bus route. Access to a vehicle/transportation to and from the site is a necessity. Please note that Uniacke Estate is not fully accessible.
Hours: The museum is open Wednesday to Sunday. Heritage Interpreters are expected to work 7.5 hour days, which includes a half hour unpaid lunch, five days a week from Tuesday to Sunday. $18/hour.
