As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for the safe operation of a variety of ultra-class heavy equipment to meet daily production targets. Here at Fort Hills, our fleet is made up of the newest and largest equipment (in the world!) including Komatsu 980 E haul trucks, Caterpillar D11 dozers, Caterpillar 24M graders and Komatsu 4100 shovels. This role includes operating dozers, excavators and loaders in the Mine and/or Coarse Tailings along with opportunities to work in our Drainage & Dewatering team.

Minimum Requirements:

• 3 years' experience operating cable or hydraulic shovels, excavators, dozers or graders in an open pit mine or experience in tailing & drainage.
• A strong proven safety mindset, extensive safety training and a best-in-class safety record.
• A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or 10 years of relevant work experience.
• A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• The ability to concentrate and maintain focus for long periods of time.

Responsibilities:

• Consistently follow our operating standards and procedures.
• Participate and be highly engaged in our site safety programs and systems.
• Operate various makes and models of haul trucks, shovels, backhoes, dozers, and/or graders in adherence to our standards and procedures.
• Complete walk-arounds, safety checks and field level risk assessments and ensure the heavy equipment is running properly.
• Demonstrate safety leadership and become a collaborative team member within an engaged, caring and inclusive work culture.
• Train and mentor others.
• Report any necessary repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors.
• Report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately.
• Participate in and drive continuous improvement programs.
• Respectful interventions are an expectation.

Location and other Key Details:

• You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometers north of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
• You will either fly to and from work from our Calgary or Edmonton hubs or bus in from Fort McMurray (relocation to a hub will not be provided).
• The shift schedule is a seven days on /seven days off rotation (seven days on, seven days off, seven nights on, seven nights off; 12-hour shifts).
• This position has been identified as safety sensitive.
