Title: Heavy Duty Mechanic – Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

Department: Mountain Operations

Reports To: Operations Manager /Maintenance Manager

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager & Operations Manager, the Shop Foreman is a hands-on position that schedules and performs all routine and preventative maintenance to all Mt Seymour’s vehicles and machinery.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and supervise the Heavy-Duty Mechanic team, including scheduling, training, and mentoring apprentices.
  2. Assist in hiring, training and evaluating the work performance of Vehicle Maintenance Department team members.
  3. Work with the Maintenance Manager to organize a preventative maintenance, inventory and record keeping system.
  4. Help manage/monitor inventories as they relate to maintenance areas, tools and equipment.
  5. Ensure the vehicle maintenance building and surrounding area is kept in a clean, safe and presentable manner.
  6. Identify and prioritize vehicle maintenance requirements.
  7. Oversee all vehicle/equipment maintenance procedures and improvements as required.
  8. Ensure that all manufacturer’s guidelines and government regulations regarding vehicle maintenance and repair are followed.
  9. Order, ship, and receive materials as required.
  10. Maintain records regarding maintenance work performed, materials used, quality, and cost control.
  11. Ensure a high standard in all finished work while remaining cost-effective.
  12. Responsible for thorough record keeping and reporting of equipment status including but not limited to work performed.
  13. Help oversee the work of a Heavy Duty Mechanic’s Apprentice.
  14. Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations when performing tasks.
  15. Report and rectify any unsafe acts.
  16. Other Duties as required.

Qualifications:

  1. Must hold an Inter-Provincial Heavy Duty Mechanic Journeyman’s ticket or equivalent.
  2. A minimum of 3 years previous experience as a ticketed Heavy Duty Mechanic with working knowledge of other related trades.
  3. Preferred working knowledge / experience with snow cats.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills to establish working relationships with managers, supervisors, and co-workers.
  5. Strong organizational and time management skills to provide timely and high-quality service in order to maximize guest and employee experiences.
  6. The ability to work well under pressure in a high volume environment.
  7. Ability to coach and supervise an apprentice.
  8. Ability to take direction and work with minimal supervision.
  9. Willing and able to work in all weather conditions while performing labor-intensive duties.
  10. Ability to be a supportive team member.
  11. Able to stand for long periods of time.
  12. Able to lift heavy weights (50lbs plus).

Terms of Employment:

Full time, year round position.
$44-$47/hour.
