ABOUT THE ROLE
Lafarge Construction is seeking a full-time Heavy Duty Mechanic/Commercial Transport Mechanic to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a fleet of cement mixers and other heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Perform maintenance and repairs on cement mixers and supporting heavy equipment.
- Collaborate with supervisors and equipment operators to identify equipment issues and provide guidance on preventive maintenance practices.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols during all maintenance and repair activities.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Post-secondary school
Additional Education Preferred: Mechanical Trades
Field of Study Preferred: Heavy Duty Mechanic/Heavy Equipment Technician
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience
Required Training/Certifications: Journeyman/Red Seal Commercial Transport Mechanic or Heavy Duty Mechanic with on-road experience, Columbia Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Certificate (asset), Forklift Certificate and experience (asset), First aid certification (asset)
Required Technical Skills: Knowledge of Cummins and Paccar engines
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge and ability to inspect, test, diagnose, assess, troubleshoot, repair, and replace electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other heavy equipment components.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Experience in the construction industry is an asset.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in commercial transport technology and repair techniques.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
- Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other components of heavy equipment.
- Replace faulty or worn-out parts and components using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Follow manufacturer specifications, repair manuals, and technical guidelines during repairs and maintenance activities.
- Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and labor hours.
- Available to work afternoon shifts starting between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
