Heavy Duty Mechanic

THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you a certified trades person looking to join a “best in class” maintenance team? Western Forest Products is hiring for a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Ladysmith Sawmill Operation located in Ladysmith, BC.

What We Offer:

1. This is a PPWC unionized position with a wage rate of $45.84/hour as per the collective agreement.
2. Hourly premiums of $0.60/hour on shifts that are outside the recognized day shift.

Shifts: Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday.

This position is considered safety sensitive; the successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment drug test.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Participate and follow Western's health and safety program and policies.
2. Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical & electrical issues on the mobile fleet.
3. Work with dealers/vendors on maintaining inventory on critical components of equipment.
4. Perform minor welding repairs on equipment.
5. Ensure equipment repair log books are up to date and accurate.
6. Maintain an organized and clean shop.
7. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

1. Must be a fully ticketed Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician.
2. All applicants must have a valid BC driver's license and be able to provide a driver's abstract.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

1. Preference will be given to those with experience in west coast sawmill equipment (forklifts, boom boats, skid steers, and log loaders).
2. Highly developed machine diagnostic and repair skills are a benefit.
3. Must be a self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision.
4. Excellent safety record and strong work ethic.
5. Highly motivated team player with excellent time management skills.
6. Creative and innovative thinking, logical problem solving, and a desire to participate in an organization committed to continuous improvement.
7. Accountable and dependable.
