Tasks:

  1. Instruct apprentices
  2. Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
  3. Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
  4. Order parts and maintain inventory
  5. Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts
  6. Keep maintenance reports and documentation
  7. Welding experience
  8. Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications
  9. Attach components and adjust new farm equipment
  10. Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
  11. Perform repair work on heavy trucks
  12. Service attachments and working tools

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:

  1. Truck and Coach Service Licence (310T)
  2. Diesel engine repair specialization:
  • Fuel injection system
  • Exhaust system
  • Cooling system
  • Air conditioning system
  • Lubrication system
  • Engine control system
  • Major internal engine repairs or overhaul
  • Installation and alignment of engines and machinery
  • Mechanical maintenance and repair specialization:
    • Mechanical transmissions
    • Hydraulic transmissions
    • Tracked vehicle suspensions and steering
    • Highway vehicle tires and wheels
    • Differentials
    • Brake system

    Work conditions and physical capabilities:

    • Physically demanding
    • Attention to detail
    • Bending, crouching, kneeling
    • Hand-eye co-ordination
    • Manual dexterity
    • Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
