The Health and Safety Manager’s role is to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of employees, contractors, visitors, and anyone else affected by Operations for multiple sites in the East Region. The role is primarily focused on creating and maintaining a safe work environment, preventing accidents, and complying with all relevant laws and regulations. This position is critical in reducing workplace injuries and illnesses and improving productivity. The candidate must be well versed in CNESST injury prevention and reporting. Occasional travel is required within the region. Fluency in French and English is necessary as the position holder must communicate with stakeholders from outside the province.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with Provincial and Federal OHS laws and regulations.
- Responsible for all H&S related activities for new customer implementations.
- Provide expert advice for all workers' compensation claims in conjunction with third party claims management company and HRBPs.
- Continuous improvement of New Hire Health and Safety Orientation for all employees (including temporary workers).
- Coordinate JHSC, First Aid and CPR, Forklift training for facilities.
- Maintain master training matrix, ensuring all required training is completed.
- Create and implement workplace H&S Policies, Programs, and Safe Operating Procedures.
- Develop and distribute safety talks and ensure all employees have completed the training and update Safety Talks matrix.
- Investigate all H&S accident/incident reports to find root causes and identify prevention measures to determine areas of improvement and trends.
- Suggest solutions/improvements and prevention steps for all safety issues.
- Provide monthly H&S reports/metrics to Management.
- Conduct Job Hazard Assessments and Physical Demands Analysis as needed.
- Participate in corporate H&S audits, site visits, and spot audits, providing input on improvement opportunities and implementing corrective actions identified in audits.
- Develop Team Leader/Supervisor Incident Investigation training and health and safety annual training with all employees.
- Maintain all Fire Safety Plans in partnership with Operations Teams.
- Ensure all life safety devices are inspected and maintained (via vendor) (Fire Extinguishers, Fire Hoses, etc.).
- Ensure all facilities conduct annual Fire Drills.
Education & Experience:
- University degree or college diploma.
- 5-7 years of health & safety experience in a multi-site environment.
