We are excited to share an opportunity for a dynamic, hands-on Health & Safety Manager to join a leading manufacturer. This role will focus on ensuring the safe management of hazardous materials, high-risk equipment, and overall safety operations within the facility. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment while supporting operational excellence.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager with a strong background in process safety to oversee safety practices in high-risk industrial operations. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe handling of hazardous materials, the safe operation of specialized equipment, and the integration of contractors and temporary workers into the safety culture of the site. This position requires a proactive, hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Safety Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive process safety program focusing on high-risk operations, including the safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment.
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate process safety risks in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety regulations.
- Lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), and risk assessments.
- Ensure safe use, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials across the site.
- Align safety measures with operational growth and scaling objectives.
- Site Safety Oversight:
- Provide hands-on leadership in day-to-day safety management, ensuring safety protocols are followed and risks minimized across all operational areas.
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments to ensure effective safety practices.
- Support operational teams in implementing corrective actions for identified safety issues.
- Ensure safe integration of contractors and temporary workers, ensuring adherence to site safety standards.
- Training and Education:
- Develop and lead comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and third-party vendors, particularly focused on high-risk activities.
- Foster a safety-first culture on-site, facilitating regular briefings, toolbox talks, and safety drills.
- Mentor and coach team members on risk management and process safety protocols.
- Risk and Liability Management:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to manage risk and liability across the organization.
- Lead investigations into safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes to improve health and safety standards.
- Safety Performance Metrics and Reporting:
- Track and report key safety performance indicators to senior management.
- Prepare detailed reports on safety audits, incident investigations, and ongoing risk assessments.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management, with a focus on process safety in industrial or manufacturing settings.
- Extensive experience with hazardous materials (e.g., acids, chemicals) and high-risk equipment.
- Proven experience managing contractors and ensuring compliance with safety standards on site.
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CRSP, CHMM, NEBOSH, etc.) are highly desirable.
Mandatory Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in process safety and HSE management.
- Experience managing hazardous materials and high-risk operations.
- Ability to lead safety audits and implement corrective actions.
