Health & Safety Advisor

Advantage Energy Ltd. (“Advantage” or the “Company”) is a proud Canadian energy company with a more than 20-year history. Advantage is an intermediate producer with production of approximately 80,000 BOE/d from high-quality assets concentrated in the Montney fairway, located west of Grande Prairie in Northwest Alberta. On June 10, 2024 the Company announced a $445-million strategic acquisition to acquire additional high-quality, synergistic Charlie Lake and Montney assets resulting in pro forma production of approximately 80,000 BOE/d.

The Company prides itself on being focused, innovative, and technology driven with a track record of execution and exceptional performance. Advantage’s subsidiary, Entropy Inc. (“Entropy”), is a new clean-tech carbon capture and sequestration company with its first project underway at Advantage’s Glacier Gas Plant and strategic investments from both Brookfield Renewable and the Canada Growth Fund.

Advantage is actively seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to join our team in the Grande Prairie Field Office. This position will report to the Manager, HSE, and plays a critical role in collaborating with Advantage's Field Operations, Drilling and Completions and Facilities Teams to oversee and ensure the implementation of health, safety, and environmental programs across field operations. This role will monitor compliance with both regulatory standards and company policies, conduct field inspections, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance. These accomplishments will be achieved through a team-first mentality that is inclusive of views and expertise of all members of the Field Operations and overall Advantage team. The position will require someone with a hands-on approach to risk management, safety culture, and emergency preparedness, and who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment. This is a full-time, contract role with the possibility of becoming permanent full-time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Field Safety Inspections: Perform regular inspections of field operations, identifying safety hazards, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations, including Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
  • Safety Training & Orientation: Develop and deliver safety training programs for all field personnel. Conduct safety orientations for new hires and ensure that employees are fully equipped with knowledge on safe work practices and emergency response protocols.
  • Incident Reporting & Investigation: Oversee the reporting and investigation of incidents, including near misses, injuries, and environmental impacts. Conduct root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
  • Job Safety Analysis (JSA): Review and audit Advantage's JSA process/documents and Safe Work Permits (SWPs) before field activities. Ensure these documents address all hazards and mitigation measures effectively.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Adherence: Ensure that all field activities meet Alberta’s OHS regulations, as well as federal and industry standards. Stay updated on local, provincial, and federal regulations and ensure full compliance in all field operations.
  • Emergency Response Planning: Lead emergency response drills and support the development of emergency response plans specific to field locations. Ensure personnel are trained and ready to respond to emergencies efficiently.
  • Certificate of Recognition (COR): Lead field requirements, task list and compilation of data for Annual COR Audit.
  • Safety Culture Promotion: Foster a strong safety culture by leading by example, encouraging open communication, and driving continuous improvement in health and safety performance across the team.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, audits, training, and incident reports in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with Field Operations team to identify safety improvements and share best practices.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Education: A degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred), or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a health and safety role within the oil and gas industry, specifically in field operations.
  • Certifications: Certification in Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management, such as CRSP, NCSO. Alberta OHS preferred. First Aid, CPR and H2S Alive certification (required).
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Alberta OHS regulations, oil and gas industry standards, and safety management systems.
  • Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills; ability to conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and safety meetings; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
  • Personal Attributes: Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify potential safety hazards; ability to work independently and make quick decisions under pressure; excellent organizational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving; team player with a willingness to collaborate.

Job Type: Full-Time, Hybrid In-Office and Field

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week

Term: Contract

Location: Grande Prairie – Field Office and Field
