We are currently seeking a Health Care Aide to join our team that is responsible for hands-on personal care services, medication administration, light housekeeping and meal service assistance, as well as participation in social-recreational activities.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintains resident records and required documentation in accordance with policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
  2. Performs medication assistance and care tasks, including BP monitoring, catheter care, assistance with ROM, mobility/movement exercises, medication assistance/administration including eye drops, eye ointments, inhalers, nebulizers, PRN medication, insulin injections, transdermal medication patches, inserting rectal suppositories, and application of topical ointments as delegated or when part of routine assistance of daily living.
  3. Monitors resident well-being in accordance with the policy of the residence.
  4. Performs other related duties as required to support common area cleaning, laundry, and resident care assignments.
  5. Completes all aspects of resident care as outlined in the personal service plan.
  6. Answers all resident call bells and door alarms promptly and provides courteous service.
  7. Works with residents to meet care requirements and communicates any concerns to the doctor and manager as needed.
  8. Demonstrates ongoing competence utilizing knowledge, skill, judgment, and evidence-based practice in caring for aging adults.
  9. Ensures accordance with provincial continuing care health service standards, legislation, codes, regulations, and employment and safety statutes.
  10. Demonstrates awareness of accident and injury prevention through safe work practices and procedures.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Completion of provincial Health Care Aide certification.
  2. Registered with provincial health care registry.
  3. Completion of Medication Administration course.
  4. Experience in a residential care setting is preferred.
  5. Demonstrates infection control procedures.
  6. Exceptional interpersonal skills with peers, residents, visitors, and operational partners.
  7. Superior organizational skills with the ability to handle multi-resident requests.
  8. Superior oral and written communication skills.
  9. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and problem solve.
  10. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts.
  11. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, squat, kneel, and lift 25 pounds.
  12. Displays compassion, education, proficiency, and experience while assisting residents.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Completion of CPR and First Aid.
  2. Clear Police Information Check.
  3. Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
  4. COVID-19 vaccination proof. This requirement may be waived if you have received an exemption through the provincial government.
